What if raditz was revived

Dragon Ball Z features plenty of unique and powerful foes , so it makes sense that at least some of them would fade from the spot-light as more memorable enemies arrived on the scene. But the very first villain of this era of the franchise, Raditz, deserved far more attention than he actually got. Raditz is largely just a footnote in the history of Dragon Ball Z when he could have been a far more vital character to the franchise. Raditz is the first antagonist of Dragon Ball Z. Before then, the villains of Dragon Ball were largely comedic or mystical. Even the most fearsome, like King Piccolo , were eventually contained after long battles. But Raditz brought a more cosmic-level threat with him. His power exceeded everything the franchise had seen to that point, forcing Goku and Piccolo to work together to have any chance of defeating him. But more than that, Raditz also brought a great deal of background to the series -- including the reveal that he was Goku's older brother and that both of them were members of the now-extinct race of warriors known as the Saiyans. Raditz quickly made himself out to be a major villain for the series He wasn't revived at any point in the canon series and remained at best a footnote. Even his initially impressive power-level was soon made redundant by elements like the Saibamen, artificially-grown soldiers used by Vegeta and Nappa that were roughly the same power level as Raditz. Not even his status as Goku's brother ended up mattering much in the end, as Goku and Gohan weren't impacted emotionally by his loss and never made an effort to resurrect him and connect with him. Outside of the occasional flashback or cameo in the afterlife, that was the end of canon-Raditz.

It would probably take longer for him to become a good guy; Goku and Gohan would take longer to trust him since he stole Gohan away when he was a kid and tried to kill Goku despite them been brothers. Based on the games, Raditz is one of those few individuals that Goku maintains his negative opinion of, despite usually been forgiving of most other enemies. Additionally, Gohan also speaks in disgust about Raditz when recalling his memories of him. The only one in the family who doesn't appear to outwardly despise him is Goten - which is due to him having never met Raditz and with him instead humorously calling Raditz by the name "Mr. Him having changed his ways in Hell after seeing how strong his brother had become along with him having killed Frieza and other villains and resolved to improve himself as a result. When the Hell Escape happens, he instead helps the Z-Fighters with the escapees and maybe even protects Gohan from Rilldo's Metal Breath; apologizing for what he did in the past. If you wanted to go further, maybe have him and Bardock be the reason Goku escapes from Hell via linking their energies alongside Piccolo and Dende; Raditz also apologizing to Goku for his past actions once you get the joke of him been confused at Goku been young again out of the way and helping him against Super 17, with him maybe doing Goku's Full Nelson on the Android so Goku can do his Dragon Fist in a homage to their battle in the past - with the two making peace properly and leaving the option open for Goku to bring him back.

Once Piccolo kills Raditz and Goku with the Special Beam Cannon, the former is completely left in obscurity, save for a few mentions and cameos here and there. At the time, Raditz was the strongest foe seen in the series, though he would soon be eclipsed by Vegeta and Nappa. Had it not been for the drastic gap in power between he, Goku, and Piccolo forcing the latter to use lethal force, Raditz could have very well survived the encounter. In the story, Raditz suffers from amnesia much like Goku did at the start of the series. This actually allows for a little more characterization than was seen with the original character, and expanded upon the brotherly bond between Goku and Raditz. At one point, Raditz gains his memories back but has been so affected by his time with his brother and nephew that he sacrifices himself to kill both Nappa and Vegeta, saving the earth and cutting the Saiyan Arc short. Much like Vegeta, Raditz was proud and arrogant, and while he was notably weaker than both Vegeta and Nappa, he stood as a mid-tier Saiyan Warrior who would have made for an interesting addition to the Z Fighters at the time. With the resources available to the Earth fighters, as well as having Goku as a potential sparring partner, it's possible that Raditz could have surpassed his middling potential with enough time. In terms of potential character growth, Raditz and Vegeta were nearly identical.

Unlike the previous era, Dragon Ball Z immediately jumped into world-ending threats, intergalactic dictators, time-traveling androids, and cosmic entities even gods were afraid of.

The sub-story ends with Raditz accepting an offer to train with the Z-Warriors, with Piccolo's comment of Raditz always "complaining" about his losses as opposed to using them as inspiration to overcome his weaknesses, like his brother.
