Persona 5 's unique take on the dungeon-crawl genre is the Phantom Thieves' infiltration of Palaces, manifestations of distortions within a person's heart. Each Palace is a labyrinth guarded by "Shadows," which are cognitive beings projected by the Palace's host to ward off intruders, and "Treasures," which are the physical representation of the host's twisted desires. At the end of each Palace infiltration, the Thieves defeat the hosts and steal their Treasures, successfully changing their hearts and ridding them of their distortions. Every Palace is unique to the owner, with different Shadows, obstacles, and puzzles in the Thieves' way. Though the overall gameplay is the same in each one, some Palaces more enjoyable, while others tend to be the source of great frustration. With the release of Persona 5 Royal , an entirely new Palace was added during the third semester. Kunikazu Okumura's Palace is generally disliked amongst fans; while the futuristic design is visually appealing, the puzzles throughout make it difficult to enjoy. It's the only Palace with timed challenges, and the other puzzles, especially navigating the color-coded airlocks, are often more tedious than fun. Much of the disappointment in Okumura's Palace can also be attributed to story elements and character development. The wait time between this Palace and its predecessor is the longest in the game, and Haru Okumura is not given the amount of screen time and development she deserves.

The events leading up to the Palace infiltration instead focus more on Morgana's discontent with being a part of the Phantom Thieves, taking away valuable time that could have been dedicated to Haru's rebellion against her father. This is the true reason why the conductor of the Metaverse incidents sends the protagonist into Palaces to clean those people's distorted desires up as a part of his game, as changing their hearts does not actually reform them but keeps them silent. Maruki's Palace in Persona 5 Royal starts strong but overstays its welcome with unnecessarily long sections, impacting the overall experience. After the Phantom Thieves band together to take down Maruki, the entire Palace becomes somewhat of a slog. It's also the catalyst for Makoto's Persona awakening, which is one of the best in the game, and she ultimately becomes one of the strongest members of the team. As a result, the atmosphere of the Palace isn't as "menacing" as the others, but it tells one of the best stories in the game. Not only is the theme well-executed, but the rigged puzzles that supposedly involve chance don't get boring to solve.

You are trying to steal the very thing that is giving the Palace structure, so stealing it won't be an easy task. On top of all that, Yusuke's story is told very well here. This is the main bulk of your work inside of Palaces. Joker, Makoto, Kasumi, Morgana. Masayoshi Shido's Shadow Self reveals that Palaces are formed by the Shadow Selves of chaotic elements who escaped from the Prison of Regression and are locked inside personalized Palaces as a result. However, after that, you should be able to complete any Palace in a single run if you conserve your SP and HP properly. In terms of the most emotional dungeon to explore, this tomb definitely takes the cake, even though the level design is far from perfect at times. We'll give a quick run-down of what Palaces there are, when they can be accessed, and when their deadlines are, to complete them and steal the treasure within. Generally, a Persona user cannot develop a Palace, as a Persona user almost always has a clear grasp of their desires and emotions, having tamed and trained their Shadow.
