Over the garden wall the beast
Anyone who has not read the TV Tropes page, it is a very good read I read it after finishing this post. The Unknown is a strange part of the afterlife, where people exist. They "live", making families and friends. The Dark Forest is a section of the unknown, with a few unique characteristics. It seems like The Dark Forest also works in a mysterious way. In the same episode, Wirt was also able to find Gregory. Gregory was also able to find spider web on a stick and a golden honey comb. So perhaps, if you search for something in The Dark Forest, you will find it. This becomes an important mechanic in this theory. The Beast is a monster whose soul is inside the Dark Lantern, which he keeps lit with the souls of children lost in The Dark Forest. It's well-known that Edelwood trees used to be souls, everyone in the Tavern probably knows, judging by their reaction to Wirt's mentioning of The Beast. I can't explain why The Woodsman claims he didn't know that "this was where the Edelwood trees came from" The Unknown, Episode Any lost souls who has lost their will, they will become trees. It's a subject where the songs, the Woodsman, and The Beast all agree. However, with these sources, never does it mention children being the sole source of Edelwood trees.

The Beast is the main antagonist of Over the Garden Wall. He is the monster of The Unknown and is feared throughout it. His goal is to catch the brothers, Wirt and Gregory , and turn them into Edelwood trees in order to fuel his lantern. When in the darkness of the forest, the Beast is always shown in silhouette. He appears to have a humanoid shape with a head and cloak-covered body. He also appears to have antlers.
Over the Garden Wall is like a forgotten fairy tale, and it can be watched in under two hours. I grew up on a hog farm in rural South Dakota. The sounds of semis barreling by in the middle of the night had a ghostly quality, passing us by between other lands. Pigs, with their muddy noses, often clogged up the pipes with that mud, so the containers had to have the mud scraped out of them twice daily to keep them working their best. On fall evenings, with a chill settling in, the handful of trees between the hog lots and my house stood like roadmaps to some other world, lit up by the moon. I would conjure things that might live among the trees, ghosts or Sasquatch or other monsters that could haunt my farm and my childhood. They just hid the house I grew up in.

The series follows the adventures of two brothers, Wirt and Greg, who are trying to find their way home as they travel through a magical forest. Over the Garden Wall uses a method of storytelling similar to the Italian poem Inferno , written by Dante Alighieri in , while also diverging meaningfully from the original work in order to create a more evocative experience. In this blog post, I argue that the field of animation allows for certain historical stories to be reimagined for an audience who are perhaps not as familiar with them, in addition to adding another layer of storytelling for those who have. After wandering for a time, they come across the Woodsman, who warns the duo of the dangerous nature of The Unknown and a dangerous Beast who resides there. In addition, the Woodsman states it is his burden to keep his lantern lit with oil harvested from the surrounding Edelwood trees. Greg then finds and saves a bluebird named Beatrice, who promises to bring the brothers to Adelaide, a good witch who she claims could help Wirt and Greg get back home Fig. On their way, the trio stops at various locations across The Unknown, meeting the various denizens of this fantasy land. Upon reaching Adelaide, it is revealed that Beatrice was leading them to the witch in order to fulfill a deal to turn Beatrice and her family back into humans. While travelling, the Woodsman again approaches the brothers, and warns them that as long as they do not lose hope and stay high in spirits, the Beast cannot not harm them. Wirt, feeling the betrayal of Beatrice and their dire situation, gives up on getting home, and while asleep Greg is given a wish.
