Mitchell 306
Back in March we posted a piece about a reel that generated a lot of comments on Facebook and through direct messages, mitchell 306. It seemed a lot mitchell 306 the readers were upset that I had chosen the Zebco Cardinal series as the reel of the decade for the s. Readers wrote in that the French made, Garcia Mitchell series of reels was by far superior to the Swedish mitchell 306 and how could I think such a dastardly thought.

March 07, , PM. A friend recently gave me an old Mitchell that needed a few parts to be restored to service. This is the first Mitchell I've worked on mostly dealt with quicks and I'm having difficulty finding a proper replacement crank. This is an old version - serial ,xxx built in the early sixties, short foot stand, and original bail type. I found a crank on the auction site that was also supposed to be suitable for a , but it's too long for this reel and it hits the bail - Even after adding an extra spacer washer and bending the bail some. I've read here that a handle will work on a Will a handle work only on newer versions of a ? This reel also had a different version of a line roller than the other old reels I've seen.
Mitchell 306 then pulled some of my grandfather's old fishing gear out and said that wanted me to have it. In any case, thank you for the reply.

For one, on some of their models the bail went backwards of all other reels. This may not seem like a problem but imagine this. In my youth, I worked at a tackle shop, and we had a big business spooling new line on reels. After spooling up 15 or so spinning reels, you get in a groove.

The is my favorite. I did it to my army green and bright red. Best, Fred. Mitchell questions. Figured I'd do the most dreaded chore first, get the bail trip assembly and spring back in. I own a few mitchells myself and fish the The bail either doesnt trip in reverse, or it just doesnt make it to the tripping point Categories B. Re: Mitchell questions. I prolly have a parts reel in the tote of Mitchells. Yeah, the entire bail assembly needs to be removed and cleaned. IMHO, the Mitchells seemed, design wise, outdated because they were possibly the best designed reels from the beginning, and great designs and engineering endure. Anyway, back to the Mitchel. I moved a while back to the West coast of Florida where most of the surf fishing is done on relatively light tackle so it will probably not see as much use as if I still lived on LI.

Thanks John. All had their pluses and minuses. I would use that thing and maintain it for the next generation. Brake system was in pretty good shape. Location: Kauai, Hawaii Logged. I have an old on a 9. Minor differences on the pinion and rotor assembly is about it. Recommended Communities. Hurtin1 wrote: Hey Slick56, what exactly is a "power handle"? Welcome to Reel Repair by Alan Tani. Plus, it wound line on the spool the correct way. Fishing tackle is an art form and all fish caught on the right tackle are"Gfish"! Then again, maybe I will use it on the boat, casting to snook by the mangroves?
Now all is clear, thanks for an explanation.
