Lyrics submitted by bfg , edited by otislover. The 21 gun salute is the highest honor one can receive upon burial, usually in a military context. It makes me wonder, who was laid to rest here? An answer I'm not quite sure of. But the whole pairing of "One, twenty-one guns" I'm guessing reiterates the importance of the individual, the idea that one person can do something worth the honor of multiple others showing respect, especially if that person gave their life for a cause.

Green Day Lyrics. Do you know what's worth fighting for When it's not worth dying for? Does it take your breath away And you feel yourself suffocating Does the pain weigh out the pride? And you look for a place to hide Did someone break your heart inside You're in ruins One, 21 Guns Lay down your arms Give up the fight One, 21 Guns Throw up your arms into the sky You and I When you're at the end of the road And you lost all sense of control And your thoughts have taken their toll When your mind breaks the spirit of your soul Your faith walks on broken glass And the hangover doesn't pass Nothing's ever built to last You're in ruins One, 21 Guns Lay down your arms Give up the fight One, 21 Guns Throw up your arms into the sky You and I Did you try to live on your own When you burned down the house and home? Did you stand too close to the fire Like a liar looking for forgiveness from a stone? Submit Corrections. Thanks to Jochen Werckx for adding these lyrics. This song took its name from a 21 gun salute used in military ceremonies to honour the fallen heroes. The Spin magazine described this song, "This track covers a lot of territory in its five minutes, from a solo acoustic guitar reminiscent of "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" to Brian May -worthy electric riffage. The song is featured in the film "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" and was included in the film's soundtrack. This song has two versions recorded for "American Idiot" musical which was performed on Broadway in one with Billie Joe Armstrong singing the male solo parts and another with the cast's actors singing.

General Comment The song must have been written about war and how a soldier deals with the trauma afterward. Theres a sense of realism with the lyrics, an underlying truth untold, lyrics 21 guns. You're right about the "importance of the individual" quoted because I couldn't put it better than that but I also think it's two people as one entity, love or something like it.

The whole album has reminded me of the song "Acrobat" by U2; specifically, the lines "I'd join the movement if there was one I could believe in. Yeah I'd break bread and wine if there was a church I could receive in. Don't be an agnostic, believe in something. Those who do and die in such purpose deserve our respect. I'm pretty sure Christian was the one laid to rest in this one.

Wow great song. Here's why. When it's time to live and let die And you can't get another try Something inside this heart has died You're in ruins. Little Girl. It's unpatriotic to say that and fucking stupid. I really agree with you on this one. I feel like it stands for something a little bit bigger. Give up the fight". People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. Thus, nobody worships Mary; She is just revered as Christ's mother. It's multifaceted, and not just anti-war. I'm pretty sure Christian was the one laid to rest in this one. Bravejango on July 01, I am Catholic, and I get that a lot, which is frustrating since it's not at all true. The thoughts in his mind are asking him now whether the cause he's fighting for is worth all it takes from him. And just because others don't believe in Him, doesn't mean they are wrong. Acrobat on July 13, He's done everything he can think of to carry on with the fight like before, but this memory is in the way. One killed there is no way to ask forgiveness from the dead.
