The second spin-off of The Vampire Diaries after The Originals is based on students of the Salvatore School who deal with a multitude of foes in a classic coming-of-age manner into heroes and villains. Unfortunately, after the fourth season, the series was canceled in May , which came as a shock to its loyal fans. According to a report by Screenrant , the ratings continued to drop in addition to the lack of profitability of The CW, which led to the decision to pull the plug on the series. Since then, several potential storylines for Season 5 that would have come to fruition began to drop. Showrunner Brett Matthews revealed to the publication that the fifth season would have featured a time jump.

Legacies is a fantasy series spun off from The Originals and set in the same universe of The Vampire Diaries.
