Kindle epub font error
Now that Amazon supports sending ePub files to Kindle ereaders and Kindle apps by email, some people are reporting errors with the formatting after Amazon converts the ePub to Kindle format.
There are multiple layers to my question. I have scoured Google for this, but no clear answer has come up about my specific situation, as most answers pertain to fixed layout epubs—and Adobe Support is rather vague. I need this explained to me in layman's terms please. I have seen multiple ebooks display featured fonts in Kindle without me having to download fonts to the device. Furthermore, I have seen other book formatting agencies use specialty fonts via Kindle. So, I'm wondering if leaving the font obfuscated strips the font on my end but maybe it will show in the published purchased version? This would be vital information to my clients, so any advice would help.

Unfortunately, Kindle uses its own proprietary format for fixed format -- that's why a fixed format epub generated from Adobe InDesign will not work on Amazon. As phillipgessert mentioned, it might be possible for you to create a reflowable ebook instead of a fixed format ebook because reflowable ebooks have fewer downsides or disadvantages than fixed format ebooks. So you basically have 3 choices. Either you format your fixed format ebook yourself using Kindle Create free app download from Amazon. And if you are creating a childrens ebook, you can use Kindle Kid's Book Creator free download from Amazon. But if you are unwilling to format and create that ebook yourself then your only option would be to hire and pay another professional formatter to format your fixed format or reflowable ebook for Amazon for you. All valid epub readers successfully handle the de-obfuscation of fonts properly and internally. Trying to copy those fonts out of the epub they were intended for to use in some other epub is the only way you can cause an issue with auto obfuscation and de-obfuscation. Since the encryption is tied to the document, it's possible that hacking at the doc in Sigil is breaking the connection and leaving the doc unable to decrypt the fonts on the fly, meaning it can't use them. With print books, you have absolute freedom to use whatever fonts you fancy, provided they're either labeled "free for commercial use" or if you purchase a license specifically for desktop publishing which normally allows commercial use for print books.
That font file that you used is a TTC font file, which is a collection of true type font files.

I don't know of a version that says "Failed" among its reporting. It's a simple tool and doesn't require much technical know-how, so it's recommended.
