After serving in the Navy, Joe worked as a software engineer in different startup companies as well as larger network companies. Joe retired from his last role as principal engineer at Crossbeam Systems in Boxborough Mass. He played guitar and piano but it was the bass that he enjoyed the most. He will be sorely missed by the music community. Joe also excelled in physics and mathematics. Solving mathematical problems was one of his passions, but for the past 50 years he always looked forward to his yearly camping trips to Maine with his lifelong friends. After 3 generations of management, the ownership of the funeral home transferred to Brenda Scott in June, who continues to operate the facility with the tradition of compassion, honour and integrity established by the Downs family.
