Complete appropriate documentation simultaneously during call in accordance with established policies and procedures. This position handles a high volume of calls, the calls come in continuously and Counselors are required to keep pace with the demands of the calls with minimal downtime in between calls. The ability to switch between tasks and programs on the computer, while assisting callers is required. This is a fully remote position, that will not require daily reporting to an office. You may be required to attend occasional in-person meetings depending on business needs.

The number has trained staff to answer calls from individuals at risk for suicide as well as those experiencing other mental health and substance use-related emergencies. Calls are answered locally if there is a local call center. Mental health crisis calls may result in potentially dangerous and traumatizing outcomes when police are called, especially in historically marginalized communities. Despite their best efforts, dispatchers usually have not received specific training on how to handle mental health and suicide-related calls. Although law enforcement response is often not necessary or appropriate for mental health crisis situations, police are typically the first responders activated by calls.
