I'm absolutely thrilled to have had the opportunity to contribute to all the films in the Maze Runner trilogy. For the third installment, director Wes Ball entrusted me with the task of designing the menacing character, Crank maze runner makeup, portrayed by the talented actor Walton Goggins.

Thomas, Minho, Brenda, and Jorge were able to steal weapons from their kidnappers and interrogated them. After some threatening by Minho, Lawrence said that they could taken a few of them with him to the Right Arm's headquarters, where their questions about the Right Arm's plans could be answered. Thomas and Brenda ended up going to the Right Arm's headquarters with Lawrence in a van which Lawrence drove, running into some Cranks who were trying to break into the van. Luckily, they were able to get away. On the drive over to the hangar, they ran into a large group of Cranks in the middle of the highway. Thomas recognized his friend Newt among them and demanded that Lawrence let him out of the van. Lawrence said that Newt had already too far gone, and when Thomas ran over to Newt and the latter showed aggression, with Lawrence threatening to shoot him. He was the boss of Gally , who he rescued and healed of the spear wound inflicted upon him by Minho. It is also revealed that Lawrence's nose was bitten off by a Crank, but that the Bliss has kept him alive. Lawrence allowed Thomas, Newt, and Gally to go into the city, as long as Frypan, Brenda, and Jorge can stay behind as "Insurance" to make sure Thomas returns.

Most of the post-apocalyptic chaos in The Maze Runner franchise results from the Flare Virus aka VCxb47 , which goes through various stages. To put it simply, the Flare was a disease caused by a virus capable of transforming humans into violent and cannibalistic beings. This virus was created by the Post-Flares Coalition as a means of population control. With most human society bound to fall in a state of disarray after the apocalyptic Solar Flares, the Coalition took it upon themselves to create the Flare Virus to painlessly kill the survivors. But as it turned out, the viral infection was far from painless. The fact that the symptoms play out in multiple stages make the Flare one of the deadliest viruses in popular culture. The novels offer greater detail on the stages preceding the transformation to zombie-like creatures called Cranks. The first stage of infection can be characterized by signs of paranoia, aggression, and erratic mood swings. The infected can initially display poor balance and mobility skills as is evident from them stumbling and swaying uncontrollably. The mental changes caused by the Flare Virus are most apparent with the splitting headaches that only get more intense with time.
