Two GoodGymers volunteered at Parkrun this morning, while 6 others took part. We wanted to use the opportunity to spread the word about GoodGym so had our banner on display but we didn't manage to encourage any new members this time unfortunately. There are normally some GoodGymers at parkrun each week though so if you missed us this time you can come and say hi next time. Continuing with my focus on Essex events started last week at Billericay parkrun , this week I decided to attend Chelmsford Central parkrun. Chelmsford is a very young city, having only recived its letters patent in 6 June , although this does mean it could technically claim to be the oldest city in Essex, ahead of both Southend 1 March and Colchester 23 November Chelmsford Central parkrun takes places in three of Chelmsford's main parks - starting in Central Park, before heading along the River Can, joining Admirals park and Tower Gardens, before returning to Central Park. The route follows a mixture of tarmac paths and grass walks through Central Park, Admirals Park, and Tower Gardens, using the River Can to connect them.

Chelmsford City Council says it cannot guarantee a resumption of Parkrun on the date that national runs are due to resume — despite pressures from the Government. All councils in the UK have been urged to permit weekly Parkrun events to resume in their area. Organisers announced last week that they have delayed the planned return of 5km events in England until June But Chelmsford City Council says a Covid risk assessment for all large events — prior to further relaxation of restrictions on June 21 — is almost impossible and able to show that the risks could be controlled. And while acknowledging pressures that local authorities were under to consider requests for organised outdoor sports safely, they stressed that Parkrun is exempt from legal gathering limits and could take place with any number of participants as long as they are in line with Covid guidance.
