First spotted by GamesRadarbg3 dispel magic, user Kill-bray on the Baldur's Gate 3 subreddit discovered a deliciously convoluted way to punk Act 2 necromancer boss, Balthazar: smuggle an anti-magic flower that's never meant to leave the game's first bg3 dispel magic across fantasy state lines and slip it into the rude dude's pocket. The Sussur Bloom is the anti-magic flower in question. There are a few scattered around Act 1's Underdark zone, and they feature in the sick Arcane Tower side quest as a puzzle solution.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Baldur's Gate 3 , but I did have several instances where I thought: "man, it'd be good to have Dispel Magic here. It was always like: 'what if I come in and I do Dispel Magic? And I'd say 'oh my god, my head is exploding'. So that's why you don't have Dispel Magic in the game. Pretty much any spellcasting class in the game can learn it, and there's a huge amount of versatility attached to it; is an enemy Concentrating on a powerful spell? Are they drawing power from a magical item? Dispel Magic will stop them in their tracks. Vincke says that "we wanted to do it, but it was just too much. It literally would have doubled the size of the game just to support that one spell properly. The desire to support a feature "properly" is a recurring message from Vincke's interview, which he says might be his last from the Baldur's Gate 3 press trip. From giving Bards all of their bizarre Class Features to ensuring that your background is reflected in the game no matter how popular it is, it's clear that the Larian lead didn't want to leave any player behind. Using those words instead of 'spell' has major implications for its use cases, since the word 'spell' is, specifically, any spell cast by a creature.

Baldur's Gate 3 does a great job at adapting many DnD fifth edition spells into a video game setting, although there are still some big differences between BG3 and DnD even beyond how some spells operate. Because of the change in medium, some spells have had to be tweaked slightly, while others simply didn't make the cut. Some DnD spells were simply too difficult to adapt to the video game medium, which lacks the free-form collaborative storytelling of the original tabletop game. Mending is a transmutation cantrip that was cut from BG3 , but could absolutely be reinstated for a DLC. Mending can repair simple objects by touching them , so long as the damage is no larger than one foot in any dimension. While the spell can fix magical items physically, it can't restore any enchantments to such an object. In BG3 mending would be great for repairing any environmental damage such as broken doors or barricades with the limitations of it being a cantrip naturally preventing it from becoming too overpowered.
