Zone 5 bowls
Zone 16 Bowls Association Inc, incorporating Bowling Clubs situated in beautiful locations within the Illawarra and Shoalhaven areas, with great views of the ocean and escarpment, and gorgeous sunsets that bring an inspiring end to a satisfying day of lawn bowls, zone 5 bowls.
Formed on 1st January, Zone 5 is one of 16 zones in New South Wales and comprises of 24 clubs and approximately members, both male and female. Geographically the zone covers a large area of mid-western and south western New South Wales. On the edge of the metropolitan area there are Blacktown City and Blacktown Workers. Zone 5 has an executive committee which is responsible for all bowls matters. The executive consists of a President, two Vice Presidents, Secretary, Treasurer and three ordinary committee members. The executive is elected every two years and reports to the club delegates on a regular basis. Operational committees for Match, Selection, Coaching, Umpires, Systems Admin and Juniors are appointed and are responsible for their respective areas.
Zone 5 bowls
Starting at 9 am the three events played their semi finals. In the Open fours Austral with 24 shot defeated Hazelbrook 13 shots. Bowral started well leading after 7 ends and still in the lead after 11 ends. Unfortunately that was about as good as it got as Bowral only scored 2 more shots in the game. Penrith won ends 12 to 16 and with a 5 shot end included raced ahead to shots. Over the last 5 ends Bowral scored just those 2 shots and Penrith 6 shots to take out the win by shots. In the Reserve Fours Campbelltown City had two team reach the semi final but both these teams lost , one to Camden by 15 shots to 17 shots, and one to Springwood shots. Senior Fours semi finals had wins to Austral over a second Austral team and Blacktown with a win over Camden. The Open Final was a nail biter with a one shot winning margin. The Chanpionship winners were Austral with a win over Penrith. In the Reserve Four victors were Camden with a comfortable win over Springwood by Finally Austral took their second Championship of the day with a 26 shot to 16 shot win over Blacktown. The results came down to the last match which Zone 5 lost to Zone 8.
