Zac Blakely is one of the main characters in Mako: Island of Secrets and lead male protagonist, as well as the secondary antagonist of the second half of season one. He is portrayed by Chai Hansen, zac blakely.

Zac Blakley is a supporting character in Mako Mermaids. He became a Merman while camping at Mako Island. An easy-going guy, Zac is quite sporty and grew up surfing. He's a water sports kind of guy, and a very strong person when it comes to personality, and after becoming a merman, things dramatically change when he becomes something he's never imagined could happen to him. Zac starts out as an all-round nice guy.

He was born a Northern merman to a powerful mermaid named Nerissa , and had an older mermaid sister Mimmi. After living most of his life on land, Zac discovered his powers and true form after unintentionally falling into the Moon Pool on a Full Moon, breaking his mother's Tailless Spell put on him when he was just a hatchling and forming a strong connection to Mako Island. Zac was born to Nerissa , a powerful Northern mermaid in late s, in the Northern Pod. As his mother's second child, Zac had an older sister named Mimmi , who was also a hatchling. When a rebel mermaid named Aurora threatened the Northern Pod , Nerissa was forced to flee with her children to the Southern Hemisphere in the ocean surrounding Mako Island , where she let Mimmi with the Mako Pod , and after realizing Zac would never be able to live in the sea, and that a pod of mermaids would never accept him, Nerissa cast a powerful spell on him that concealed his true merman form and deprived him of all his powers, disguising him as human. Seeing a young couple at the beach, Nerissa was in hope of them raising Zac as their own, so she let her son at the shore, where he was found by Rob and Lauren Blakely, who raised him as their own son and later, never tell him that he was adopted. Good looking and charming, Zac starts out as an all-round nice guy. He's popular and sporty, always off on one adventure or another with best mate Cam. He and Cam have a healthy and long-running rivalry based firmly in good-hearted mate ship.

Nerissa is a Northern mermaid , and the biological mother of Zac and Mimmi. She has been described as the most powerful and strongest of all mermaids and has mastered spells that no other mermaid in the world has ever been able to accomplish. She was apparently one of the few mermaids at the time that believed it was possible for mermen and mermaids to live in peace as she is also a descendant from a royal line of merpeople who ruled the seas and ensured peace between mermen and mermaids after ending the previous war between them.

An easy-going guy, Zac is quite sporty and grew up surfing. When both the dragon and Mimmi suddenly disappear, a distraught Zac believes that they not only failed to save Nerissa, but that he has lost his beloved sister in the process as he and an equally devastated Ondina desperately cry out to her. Cam quickly becomes fascinated with Zac's abilities, but as Zac's ego grows and he starts to view himself as better than everyone else, Cam's interest and motivation to support his friend turns to intense jealousy. When he first gets a tail, Zac experiences a range of different emotions. He is successful, but seemingly at the cost of his own life. While Lyla is focused on preventing Zac from getting it, Nixie and Sirena start to sell Sirena's self-made jewellery using shells and pearls she finds in the ocean in order to earn money rather than take from Rita. After sharing this thought with Weilan, she decides that he has a point and agrees to try to teach him. Now powerless, Zac seemingly loses all hope of stopping Erik, but he musters courage after being encouraged by Cam, Evie, and Mimmi. However, instead of finishing him off, the dragon merely sniffs Zac and then leaves. So they decide that they are gonna go look for it Zac as a merman and Cam dressed in the swimming clothes. This causes a rift in his friendship with Cam - who is used to being Zac's equal and is jealous of his new abilities.

The spell works later on, but also causes them to slowly swap bodies. Later than when Cam went away Zac went to the bathroom and than he disappeared. In season 2, his hair was medium with curlier waves, and in season 3, his hair was longer and curlier. After many tries, Zac is finally able to master the spell and the triumphant duo share a celebratory hug. Afterwards, Zac feels greatly responsible for Evie's lost tail, but Evie herself does not blame him for they had both lied to each other.
