The top was a gauzy periwinkle blouse with sleeves that fluttered over my shoulders, threaded with tubular clear beads. The bottoms were baby blue Levi s, old and soft, roomy and relaxed, wide-legged and high-waisted. Plastic iridescent seashell earrings were the finishing touch. I like shiny things. A black leather belt and a pair of Nikes pulled it all together. It was all thanks to Awoke Vintage in Williamsburg. My arrival in New York was an exhale. Coming from confining suburbs, the city gave me space to breathe. For the first time, I was immersed in free expression and inspired to take part.

Monday - Sunday 11am - 7pm. Founded in by former model and vintage aficionado Kathleen Sorbara. Alongside Kathleen's vintage finds she features pieces from local, sustainable designers. My shop is a cozy hideout for me, my friends, and my customers away from the crazy world that is New York City. The back room of the shop is like a little living room and people come by throughout the day to hang and chat. The thing that I crave most is human connection, and I feel I have created a space where people feel welcome and safe to do that, while shopping for their new favorite vintage finds. Chickee was my nickname growing up. Where do you source so many great vintage finds? I source everything for the store from my travels all over the world! I book trips pretty spontaneously and traveling is a great excuse to source new unique items for the store.
