Please note this area is well known for tiger snakes in the summer time. I have seen a snake in the main section of the park heading over one of the main paths so the grass areas will definitely have them. Keep an eye out. A few years ago, there was a fire in the area in some old wharf piles and the fire fighters couldn't get close due to the number of snakes fleeing the fire area so take care. Westgate Park is located just below the Westgate Bridge on the city side of the Yarra. It's not my favourite circuit but a lot of people use it as a lap training ride as it's close to town and the park is gradually recuperating from years as a tip into a half decent wetland area.

A pump track is a purpose-built track for cycling. It has a circuit of rollers, [a] banked turns and features designed to be ridden completely by riders "pumping"—generating momentum by up and down body movements, instead of pedaling or pushing. Pump tracks are relatively simple to use and cheap to construct, and cater to a wide variety of rider skill levels. Skateparks experienced a huge boom in the late s and early s. However, most of them were designed to be used by experienced or professional riders, and thus resulted in some injuries. Most pump tracks link a series of rollers to steeply bermed corners that bring the riders back around. Paved pump tracks also have the advantage that they can be ridden by skateboarders , in-line skaters , and foot-powered scooters. Since momentum, or speed, is gained by the rider pumping, such as on the down-slope of each roller, the best bikes to use have no suspension, which would absorb useful energy. Some bikes have been designed which are custom built for a pump track, with features such as an offset crank, which stabilizes the pedals, and lowers the rider's center of gravity.

They were originally designed for mountain bikes and BMXs, but now, due to concrete or tarmac constructions, can also be used by skateboards and are accessible to wheelchairs. We see this as an opportunity to provide a safe learning ground for young people to enjoy exercise outdoors, to develop their skills and to progress to other forms of biking in and around the Mendips area. Cheddar skate park is a hugely popular venue for young people to meet, to skate or cycle, to learn new skills, and hopefully to develop healthy living and lifestyle traits that will stay with them for life. The pump track project will increase the capacity of the facility, providing a resource that enables people of all abilities to develop their skills, from beginners upwards. Ultimately, we want to encourage increased use of the site for everyone regardless of gender, age, ability or ethnicity and to encourage a stronger community. We hope that this will encourage more cyclists and offer a springboard to new projects and to reinvigorate the cycling community in the area. We are now working with Cheddar Parish Council to get the track built and opened by the Spring

Over the years apparently the garden people there were removing track on their own volition and sections of land got closed off so there really isn't much left. Looking on YouTube there were a couple of clips showing some sorta decentish track but I'm having trouble finding enough continuous single track as in the vid. I will have to check that out next time I am down in Melbourne.

There was a pump track there that last time I went that was pretty neglected and had lost its flow, but that was maybe 3 years back. The pump track is still kind of there and a couple tails that I could find but thats about it. Good to hear stuff going in around Brimbank Trail condition sources. I used to ride there when I visited Melbourne years ago as I was staying near there. It looks like a lot of planting work has been done lately and I'm wondering if some of the trails have been filled in with mulch? What's new New posts New profile posts Latest activity.
