August 5, Hello from Vic Payne Studio! Can you believe that it is August already He has been working tirelessly since early on this monumental sculpture. Other works-in-progress were set aside as he became consumed in making sure Chris's parents, wife and kids were at peace with his efforts of capturing their son, husband and father's essence. After tears, stories and a few minuet changes, they all gave their wholehearted blessing to Vic. Vic also incorporated messages of love that Chris's family carved into the sculpture's base This process usually takes a foundry 3 or 4 months to produce. Hats off to all the Metal Arts Foundry Employees who worked so hard on this project Our family is truly humbled by the entire experience. The Odessa, TX committee created a beautiful 2, square foot memorial plaza laced with symbolism not only honoring Chris Kyle but also paying tribute to all Veterans. With the lure of "Gold," many men were enticed by the tales of California's riches and traveled West leaving their families behind. But thousands of determined women chose to join their husbands, firm in their resolve to keep their families together. From - , around , settlers traveled Westward on the Oregon Trail which often took 4 - 6 months to complete. It has been estimated that upward of 65, settlers lost their lives due to illness, drowning, child birth and various accidents on this perilous journey. One can only imagine that it was not easy leaving the comforts and security of civilization and extended families behind. Yet the pioneer woman crossed vast prairies, scorching deserts and mountains bringing civilization to the Wild West with them, along with schools, churches, hospitals and libraries. These women were as equal in importance in our nation's history, as the more famed male characters and legends of the American West.
