During his time, in Daybreak Town, Ventus' personality was mostly the same but he was also shy and had a hard time making friends and yet didn't like the idea of fighting other wielders. After learning the truth of his part in Strelitzia's demise, he feels guilty that he was unable to save her when Darkness had possessed him.
