I'm really happy that Gorhill has listened to feedback on the branding and explanation of this, and added back in the ability to "opt in" to extended permissions on individual sites. Thank you for your work, and I'm sorry if my comments in the preview HN thread came off as overly hostile, because given the original comments you made about MV3, ublock origin lite, I couldn't imagine ublock origin lite sort of outcome. I hope that you or someone else still works to release an MV3-compatible "Full site permissions" version of uBlock as well, since I think there ublock origin lite a lot of potential options for improvement by using declarativeNetRequestFeedback, and it's certainly more convenient to not have to opt-in.
So I was actually trying out uBlock Origin Lite [1] the MV3 compatible version as my daily driver for the past week and I must say it's not that bad. I really wouldn't want to opt into every single site I visit. Most websites don't bother with antiadblock because current adblock can handle that. Once most people are using crippled ad blockers that can't bypass antiadblock, they'll implement the antiadblock. There isn't much incentive right now to make ad delivery that can't be blocked in mv3.

To grant extended permissions on a given site, open the popup panel and pick a higher filtering mode such as Optimal or Complete. The browser will then warn you about the effects of granting the additional permissions requested by the extension on the current site, and you will have to tell the browser whether you accept or decline the request. If you accept uBOL's request for additional permissions on the current site, it will be able to better filter content for the current site. You can set the default filtering mode from uBOL's options page. If you pick the Optimal or Complete mode as the default one, you will need to grant uBOL the permission to read and modify data on all websites. Keep in mind this is still a work in progress, with these end goals: - No broad host permissions at install time -- extended permissions are granted explicitly by the user on a per-site basis. IMHO it's best to assign a new name and my first suggestion is uPrivacy. It's one of the unique characteristics and identity of uBO among many such as superior performance. Well, if I understand correctly neither performance will be a unique characterisitics in MV3 as now filtering is done by browser. Whatever the intention was, in my country it turned out people's perception is: "Oh, relieved. And as gorhill had to clarify, others take "Minus" as a sign of negative feelings. My rationale for the name uPrivacy is:. Other candidates I think of are uFilter, uDefender, uProtector, etc.
Fast and lean. It blocks ads, trackers, coin miners, popups, annoying anti-blockers, malware sites, etc. There are many other lists available to block even more. Hosts files are also supported. You may easily unselect any preselected filter lists if you think uBO blocks too much.

If desired, users can add more rulesets by visiting the options page accessible through the popup panel. Unlike other content blockers, uBOL is entirely declarative and does not require a permanent process for filtering.
Thanks for the suggestion, I've been looking for something like that. There is no point complaining about it, it's just not for you, it's meant for another kind of users -- you do not have to use it.
