The group started with Elaine and Betty, then Anita joined and soon Claire and Pat to form the full group. Appearing on CBS Sunday Morning via YouTube , the group revealed that they had always been friends, but the weekends of football together gave them a newfound bond and was a great time in their lives. The main premise for 80 For Brady is the groups' ambition to go to the Super Bowl, which ironically premiers many movie trailers , and watch Tom Brady play. The goal of the 80 For Brady club is supported by telling the story of their friendship and providing heart-warming comedy, but the main plot is to see the Super Bowl which they do manage to achieve and see Tom Brady and the Patriots victorious. Brady sent the ladies a video message when 80 For Brady was greenlit telling them how he was involved with creating the 80 For Brady story.

Although 80 for Brady is inspired by a real story, not all the characters in the film correspond to real-life people, making the question of whether the 80 for Brady Dan is fictional or a real NFL player understandable. While the movie is inspired by the real-life "over 80" fan club for Brady, some of the characters and plotlines only exist in the film. Jane Fonda's character in 80 for Brady, Trish, is one of the four best friends the movie follows. As they meet again when Dan invites Trish and her friends to a party, the two seem to fall in love with each other. In the film, Dan is an ex-Super Bowl winner who has two different rings from two different teams, both of which exist in real life. However, this doesn't mean that he's based on a real person. In 80 for Brady, many characters play real-life people, especially football players like Brady, who the film is named after. However, Dan is not, in fact, a real former NFL player but a character completely made up for the film, perhaps to add to the plot and center Trish as the protagonist of a love story. Therefore, his story with Trish, and his entire existence and persona overall, is one of the instances in which 80 for Brady changes the real-life story behind the film. Most of the other NFL players and celebrities in the film are portrayed on screen by their respective selves, such as Rob Gronkowski and Guy Fieri.
Sarah Haskins Emily Halpern. The ladies make their way into the coaches booth and work the controls so that Lou can contact Brady through his helmet.
The film starts in They prepare for a superstition that they think helps the Pats win, involving Betty stepping on a ladder, Trish reading a magazine in the kitchen, Maura sipping tea, and Lou knocking over a bowl of chips. It works and the Pats win, moving on to the Super Bowl. The ladies cheer for their team and for star quarterback Tom Brady. Trish is known for writing an erotica novel about Rob Gronkowski, as well as being a mascot in ads from her younger days. Betty is great with math and numbers, and she is married to scatterbrained Mark Bob Balaban. Maura moved into a retirement home after the death of her husband, even though he left their house to her.
The new film 80 for Brady is a sporadically effective comedy that wants to have its cake and eat it too. The film expects its audience to take all of its moments of ham-fisted humor and drama with the same level of sincerity while never demonstrating that it has the self-awareness that it needs in order for its numerous gags to work. There will, inevitably, be many more movies released throughout that ask too much of their viewers. That said, the film does still try unsuccessfully to milk her inevitable confession for all of its emotional worth. Lou eventually gets her hands on enough Super Bowl tickets for her and her friends to make the trip to Houston together. From there, 80 for Brady spends most of its runtime following Lou, Maura, Trish, and Betty as they all experience more than their fair share of misadventures in the days and hours leading up to the Super Bowl. The film goes out of its way to try and give each of its four leads an arc, which results in it haphazardly bouncing from moments of absurd humor to intense drama and back again. By trying to pack so much into its fairly limited runtime, 80 for Brady fails to devote enough time to its dramatic and humorous moments in order for most of them to land as well as they should. Despite their proven on-screen chemistry and talent, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin also feel strangely stranded and stiff in 80 for Brady.
