Doing things a bit differently for this review since Tara Iti is too dope for WordPress.
An exclusive private golf club north of Auckland, Tara Iti was designed by Tom Doak and set alongside a spotless surf beach near the small town of Mangawhai. The project was developed by Californian financier Ric Kayne, and took several years to complete due to complicated planning and regulatory challenges. The delays may have been unwelcome at the time, but they were necessary and his course was certainly worth the wait. What makes Tara Iti so special, is the pristine dunes upon which most of the holes are set and the constant views out toward Bream Bay and the iconic Great Barrier, and Hen and Chicken islands. Interestingly, when Doak first set foot on the property the coastline was completely hidden by a dense and overgrown pine plantation, that had not only robbed the site of any biodiversity it had, in fact, provided shelter for predators of the rare birds.

Rankings: 2nd 5th 16th. The driveable par fours highlight the course and the ocean views throughout the round never grow tired. Directions: Get here! Located an hour and a half north of Auckland on a stretch of beach that was exposed after a massive clearing of trees and non-native plants, the property for Tara Iti was a blank canvas for Tom Doak to work with which created a scenario that could only be limited by his imagination. The beautiful setting, which now features some native planting, rests alongside the ocean but is located meters inland due to development restrictions. While those holes are played with great anticipation, the lengthy and controversial par four 12th if often played with a significant dose of dread with its blind tee shot and a green that is tilts harder to the left than Bernie Sanders. That is great from the aspect that the holes are consistently so good from start to finish, but it also lacks the type of climax that you get from so many of the best coastal courses in the world; at Cypress Point, at Pebble Beach, at Cabot Cliffs, and at Turnberry come to mind. Having an opportunity to play at Tara Iti requires an invitation from a member and having that member on-site while playing. When you arrive at the golf course you will be introduced to your caddie who will carry your bag for the day as carts aren't allowed during your experience on the links. When all is said and done, Tara Iti is one of the finest golf experiences on Mother Earth. That being said, Cape Kidnappers actually offers more engaging, dramatic, and varied terrain to tee it up on in Kiwi country. In addition, the two public access courses at Te Arai offer an alternative in the neighborhood for those that are unable to secure an invitation to Tara Iti. Signature Hole: 6th Hole — Yard Par 4 — While many people will talk about the trio of driveable par fours as a highlight at Tara Iti, it was this lengthy two-shotter that I found to be particularly impressive. Reminiscent of the 4th hole that Doak designed at Pacific Dunes, the 6th at Tara Iti plays straight down the coastline with waves from the Pacific rolling into the beach on the player's right. A tee shot up the right half of the fairway will keep the waste area out of play that pinches the fairway on the left side, but yields a less desirable angle into the green if the flag is tucked behind the bunker flanking the front right of the putting surface.
The resort options and spas are plentiful and offer a variety of different setups for couples or kid-friendly atmospheres. Best Par 5: 18th Hole — Yards — If tara iti golf club photos to identify whether the 3s, 4s, or 5s were the weakest element at Tara Iti, I would identify the par fives but you wouldn't know it from playing this quality finishing hole.
Tara Iti Golf Club is magic! No disrespect to the home of golf, but this course might be as special as it gets when it comes to playing links golf. Tara Iti is a masterpiece that opened late in The course brings swift fairways and plenty of risk-reward opportunities, offering a bevy of challenging shots that you need to plan carefully in order to get close to the flag. I loved especially the shapes presented by the fairways and waste areas, which make it feel as though the entire course is seamlessly woven together. No bunkers, just waste areas. On a personal note, my match against Johan was halved.

But EAL is particularly unique in that he is constantly looking to share his experiences with the masses and grow the game. Andrews but ahead of Royal Portrush Golf Club, host to the the th Open Championship , Tara Iti provides everyone with a once-in-a-lifetime guest pass pending a favorable letter of recommendation from your club to tee it up at one of the most incredible golf courses in the world. Sadly, after enjoying a taste of this slice of golf heaven, future visits will require that you either obtain membership which is extended exclusively through invite from a current member or receive an invitation to play as a guest from a member so remember to shake as many hands as possible while visiting. While the golf course itself is certainly one of the most appealing parts about Tara Iti, it would be foolish to overlook the demeanor of the club. Cover Image Via Instagram. The adobe buildings feel like they have been there forever and yet are still perfectly maintained. Accessory Reviews 4 weeks ago. That is saying something! When the sun set, it was time for a change in scenery and we headed over to the man gender-neutral cave containing a simulator, trackman, putting green, full bar, and a big screen television. The course felt pristine and special. Most folks I spoke to on the property noted that the South Course has a couple more breathtaking views and elevation changes than its counterpart North, but the North Course provides a wider array of shot-making options for the more serious golfer. Even then, I was surprised at how there were barely any cars on site. It is the definition of target golf. Tara Iti looks incredible. Birdie Time: 13th Hole — Yard Par 4 — With three driveable par fours to pick from as the Birdie Time hole, it is the 13th that presents the least amount of things that can go wrong. The food, drinks, and lodging are all upscale. And the logo is fantastic. The architecture and general club ambience are also superb. The course maintains a prairie-like feel throughout the routing, but the back nine really shines with Texas character.
Since its grand reveal, Tara Iti Golf Club has occupied a place in the hearts and minds of golfers across the world. To most it feels a world away: isolated geographically, almost heavenly in its beauty, and, given its famed privacy and exclusivity, almost impossible to access.
A tee shot up the right half of the fairway will keep the waste area out of play that pinches the fairway on the left side, but yields a less desirable angle into the green if the flag is tucked behind the bunker flanking the front right of the putting surface. As you would expect, it was incredible. Throughout the round, the overwhelming sense at Tara Iti is of playing a course with a distinct character and personality. The 8th hole can stretch back to yards and then number 15 goes even longer to But the level of precision required to score should be off the charts if we are trying to challenge the best players in the world. They are going big with this place. Jim was mid-sentence telling me a story when I saw it for the first time. I loved especially the shapes presented by the fairways and waste areas, which make it feel as though the entire course is seamlessly woven together. Your email address will not be published. The fairways and rough use the same grass type to allow for flexible widening and narrowing of hole corridors to adjust for championship play. Cool, a traveling halfway house! The gulch, which is seen on nearly every hole, feels more native and marshy than anything I saw in my previous rounds.
Today I read on this question much.
I suggest you to come on a site where there is a lot of information on a theme interesting you.
I am absolutely assured of it.
