The Elder Scrolls is a popular series of role-playing games developed by Bethesda Softworks. The franchise is set in the fictional world of Tamriel and is known for its open-world gameplay mechanics and engaging quest lines. Due to its open-world concept and character-driven storytelling, The Elder Scrolls has established itself as a standard-bearer for immersive franchises within the RPG genre. It provides an overview of all the areas that players can explore within The Elder Scrolls Online. The map is accompanied by a helpful legend that categorizes the provinces marked on the map based on their appearance in the game's various installments. The provinces that are available to explore in ESO are marked in green, while those that appeared in Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim , are marked in yellow. Finally, provinces that haven't been seen since the game's very first installment, Arena , are marked in brown. This categorization can help players quickly understand which regions are available to explore in the current game, and which ones may be added in future updates or DLCs. This map also includes locations that will be available in the upcoming DLC Necrom. In Necrom, the map is limited to the Telvanni Peninsula, home to large mushrooms, rocky landscapes, and Necrom city. However, some areas of Hammerfell , Cyrodiil Skyrim, Morrowind, Elsweyr, and Black Marsh have certain sections that are closed off to players. Based on the map, a significant portion of Cyrodiil, located between the southwest region outside the Imperial City and the Gold Coast, is marked in yellow, indicating that this area is only available in The Elder Scrolls 3, 4, and 5. Another region between Northern and Southern Elsweyr is marked in brown, which suggests that this area is only available in The Elder Scrolls: Arena.
The Argonians do not have a word for their homeland in their native languagetamriel, in part because they do not consider it a singular nation, tamriel. The original home of Men in Tamriel, Skyrim is located in the frigid north of Tamriel, between Morrowind and High Rockand is the home of the oldest race of men, the Nords.
Tamriel is the continent which serves as the primary setting for all of The Elder Scrolls games. It consists of nine provinces and assorted disputed territories. Called Argonia by its inhabitants, Black Marsh is home to the reptilian race of the Argonians. It is located in the south-eastern corner of Tamriel and is covered by vast, festering marshes, rainforests, waterways, and immense, impenetrable forests of Hist and mangrove trees. Due to the topography of the land, travel of any distance is difficult for seemingly anyone that isn't Argonian which is a definite factor as to why Black Marsh has never been successfully invaded or mapped. Many cities of Black Marsh, such as Gideon , were originally founded by the Ayleids. Little else is known about this mysterious and ill-documented place.
Tamriel , also known as the Arena , is one of the main continents of the planet Nirn. Bitter years of endless war had its effect on the populace, and the name Tamriel seldom fell from anguished lips. In a place where life and death were different sides of the same coin tossed every day, the common people began calling the land of their sorrow the Arena. Much of Tamriel's history is known and documented, but large swathes are still unknown, particularly the periods known as the Dawn Era and the Merethic Era. Tamriel's very beginning can be traced to when the wandering Ehlnofey fought the Ehlnofey who remained settled in their former home. According to the narrative of the Anuad , the original singular landmass of Nirn was broken apart into at least four major landmasses—Tamriel, Akavir , Atmora , and Yokuda. It was at the end of the Dawn Era that the Aldmer of Aldmeris began to diverge along cultural and biological lines, starting the process that would lead to the modern mer races. In the middle of the Merethic Era an unknown threat caused the Aldmeri to leave Aldmeris and head towards Tamriel. They colonized many islands along its coast before settling on Summerset Isle. Later they started moving inland, settling many areas in southwest and central Tamriel.
