The new Star Wars show picks up with the same mission teased at the end of the animated series, star wars rebels season 5. The Mandalorian not only broke ground as the first ever Star Wars live action series, it also brought to life several characters that had only existed in the animated arm of the franchise. While folks like Bo-Katan and Cad Bane, who first appeared on cartoon shows like The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebelshave had significant storylines on The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fettthey've had to operate on series headlined by people who originated in the live-action space.

With lots of references to the animated series Star Wars Rebels , there's a general feeling that this new series may be too dependent on previously existing lore to make itself understood as a story in itself. Some people are even going so far as thinking Ahsoka may as well be Rebels Season 5, while others are starting to ponder how much previous knowledge one should have to actually enjoy this new series. So is it really just a sequel to Rebels , or could it find its way and become something new and unique? While there are indeed a lot of story elements that come from Rebels , Ahsoka is trying to tell its own story in the sense that it's about one main character, Ahsoka Tano Rosario Dawson. There are many supporting characters who are just as engaging and complex as she is, of course, and some of them we know from Rebels , but the story isn't about them.

But after the ambiguous ending of Season 4, will the crew return in a fifth season? There is no release date for the fifth season of Star Wars Rebels , as its story continues in the latest Ahsoka series on Disney Plus. But with the success of The Mandalorian, all plans that Dave Filoni had for the Rebels characters were shifted to live-action, with Ahsoka Tano also making her live-action debut. Now, with the launch of her own series, most of the popular Rebels characters have returned in it. Hence, we can be sure that a Star Wars Rebels Season 5 will not happen. Instead, Ahsoka will continue its narrative by reassembling most of the Rebels characters. Then they could go on to appear in Ahsoka Season 2 if it happens and the upcoming Star Wars movie that Dave Filoni is directing.
