Thaal Sinestro of Korugar is the arch-nemesis of Green Lantern. After Sinestro went rogue, he was banished by the Guardians of the Universe to Qward in the antimatter universe. When he returned, he wielded a power ring which used yellow energy.

He chooses Hell, and sinestro dragged into the Underworld. Later, sinestro, it is revealed that Sinestro survived from the attack, is critically injured and that he and Lyssa Drak were teleported to Qward.

Thaal Sinestro, originally an anthropologist from the planet Korugar , had a natural affinity for order as displayed by his meticulous reconstructions of ancient ruins. It was at one of these reconstructions that a wounded Green Lantern , Prohl Gosgotha , crash landed. He gave his ring to Sinestro who barely defeated the lantern's pursuer, a Weaponer of Qward , at the cost of the very ruins he had restored. When Gosgotha requested his ring back after the battle so that it might keep him alive Sinestro instead allowed him to die and took his place. After destroying the dead Guardian Scar , Sinestro and the other heads of the seven Lantern Corps, along with Ganthet and Sayd , tried to destroy Nekron and the Black Lantern Central Power Battery , but was ineffective since their power only created a small fraction of the white light. The AI contains a large database of information that may be crucial to a Lantern's success. Sinestro meets with the ghost of Lyssa Drak who fulfills her final obligation and disappears, leaving behind her skull which Sinestro takes. His dedication to preserving order originally manifests in his previous career, an anthropologist specializing in reconstructions of ruins of long-dead civilizations. Now that the threat of Mongul's coup and the Black Lanterns on Korugar was removed, they all decided that they needed to get the heads of other three Lantern Corps to recreate the white light necessary to destroy the Black Lanterns. Sinestro appears before the Guardians demanding that his ring be removed. Hal Jordan realizes the Entity needs a mind to guide it and prepares to fly in, but Sinestro cuts him off.
