Welcome back and thank you for your support over all these years. We first decided to build an online reference site for Sindy because as anyone who has ever collected the Pedigree Sindy doll knows, collecting Sindy can sometimes be very difficult. This means that the Sindy leaflets, brochures and trade catalogues are not always complete, correct or detailed enough for the serious collector. Fabrics and items were sometimes changed after the literature had been printed in order that the company could ship the product. It can therefore be very difficult to establish what the outfit or the accessory looked like, or what came with it. So what we did, and still do, is research each item very carefully. Wherever possible we try to describe first-hand from our own collections or from what our friends have told us about their own. We also ask a lot of questions, and we remain deeply grateful to everyone who answered so patiently and diligently. It was a huge task just to get to where we are and it still is. In later years adding new entries to the old museum became increasingly difficult. Our website host was bought out and no more money was invested in it, so over time we lost the functionality and tools to update the museum. Bless it, the old museum was getting very tired and outdated compared to modern websites, but you could still check things which had always been the point.

The outfit was worn with brown lace up walking shoes and Sindy was accompanied by her little dog Ringo. This means that the Sindy leaflets, dragonsfoot and trade catalogues are not always complete, correct or detailed enough for the serious collector. The Pedigree Sindy doll was officially introduced to little girls on Sunday 6th of September at 6pm with a 30 second TV commercial in the London area. She was the first UK toy ever to be advertised on television. The advert with its catchy jingle was shown a further 25 times up to Christmas day, when her first eight outfits and eight separates were also screened. She was a 12 inch teenage fashion doll and her first outfits were inspired by s fashion designers such as Tuffin and Foale, with her clothes reflecting fashions of the day. She was an instant success and Pedigree had to work all possible shifts to keep up with the demand.

Certainly, the printing on the original version is much finer. It has a double row of moulding down the front of the coat and at the end of the seams. The Far East version is lighter in colour and thicker, and it feels spongy like there is a padded layer between the front and back plastic. This set was available for a number of years although it was not always shown in the Sindy style leaflets or trade catalogues. It has two white flat poppers. The Country Walks jacket does not fare well over time and often stiffens. The buttons are lighter in colour on the Hong Kong version, and the thread used for the buttonholes, stitching and overlocking the fabric is more green in colour see photo top right — MIE on the left and HK on the right. The bras are very simple, a folded semi circle of blue fabric trimmed with lace and attached to black elastic. They are harder with a rounder shape at the top. The pattern of this skirt matches the style leaflet most closely, and it is just slightly longer than the later versions because it has a wider waistband. Ideal for that casual, lounging about look. Sindy wore red plastic knee high boots and carried a fashionable red PVC tote-style shopping bag with an integral handle and front pocket. Her leaflet makes no reference as to her manufacturer and clearly states that the doll is imported from England, but that she is dressed in France. The jerkin fastened at the back with three painted metal poppers.
