The Simpsons has released more than episodes, delivering some of the best half-hours of comedy in television history. But not every entry can be a home run. There have been some clunkers produced by the Simpsons creatives over the years. However, they're able to recognize some of their least popular -- openly calling one of them out in an otherwise unrelated episode of the show. One of those events was revealed to be Lady Gaga's visit to the city in Season 23, Episode 22, "Lisa Goes Gaga," which is still regarded as one of the series' most disappointing episodes. Positioned against him was the Prince family, who spoke about the importance of remembering history and feeling a level of shame for it. Martin's mother Gloria specifically cited the "darkest days in Springfield" during the episode, directly referencing the Springfield Monorail and Lady Gaga. The monorail reference is to Season 4's "Marge vs. That event makes sense as a "dark day" in the town's history, because it's a painful reminder of their gullibility and might have cost countless lives if not for Homer Simpson's lucky intervention. But the other event Gloria mentions wasn't necessarily a problem for Springfield -- rather it was an infamous day for The Simpsons as a whole. While Lisa and most of the town found self-confidence and self-acceptance with Gaga's perfect assistance, she casually dismissed Moe Szyslak because "even [I'm] not that good," and the bartender was struck by a train.

However, when Bart exposes her self-promotion to the school, she becomes even more despised. Her spirits aren't really lifted when Lady Gaga's Gaga Express rolls into town. Gaga's attempt to make Lisa believe in herself again cause Lisa to unleash her repressed anger and rage at the superstar. The relief of finally releasing that anger helps Lisa realize that it's okay to be your own biggest fan, which she announces to the town via a Gaga-inspired song.
