Silent witness series 5
Series 5 was the fifth series of Silent Witness. It ran from 11 December to the 20 March It starred Amanda Burton as Sam Ryan. The series opened with The World Cruise and concluded with Faith. The series consisted of three stories and six episodes. Both it and its predecessor are the only to do this, making them the shortest series in the show's history. The series would be the last to feature Sam Ryan as the show's sole lead. However, Sam Ryan would still remain as the show's main protagonist. This ensemble lead would remain up until Series 8 , when Sam would leave at the end of the series' opener, Time To Heal. Series 5 would be the first to have an episode set partially outside of the United Kingdom. Though as it is only partially set in Norway and only for the first part, it wouldn't be until Series 12 that a story would be set entirely outside of the United Kingdom, with Finding Rachel being solely set in Zambia. Series 5 would be the first and only series not to have all of its stories broadcast within the same year. Series 5 would also be unique in its broadcasting as it's the only series to have episodes broadcast in December. On top of that, each story was broadcast in different months, meaning that there were gaps of several weeks between them. A particularly large broadcasting gap was in between The World Cruise part 2 and Two Below Zero part 1, which was exactly two months.
