As always, our primary objective is to support young people during this celebratory weekend and to safeguard the Victor Harbor community. In Australian culture, we celebrate milestones and achievements. And these celebrations tend to be accompanied by alcohol. Year after year, young people celebrate the end of Year 12 in the same way they see adults do. At the end of next year, Year 12s will again gather with their mates to celebrate the end of their school career and these celebrations will likely include alcohol. Without this response, young people will not have the coordinated support made available through our volunteers or emergency services, or the safe place to celebrate offered by the Schoolies Festival and free bus service. Encounter Youth is a registered charity. Encounter Youth is not an event management company or a relief-aid organisation. We are not an alcohol or drug rehabilitation organisation or a youth ministry. Encounter Youth is a not-for-profit charity who offers direct support to those facing serious social challenges, provides education and training programs, facilitates volunteer and service opportunities, collaborates with local communities and advocates for the best interests of young people. In , Encounter Youth began coordinating a community response to encourage school leavers to party safely and minimise the impact on the local Victor Harbor community. Gates are open each night between pm—am , and there are heaps of venues to explore and enjoy with your friends. Their goal is to ensure you have a great time celebrating!

Once a hotbed of sometimes ferocious alcohol-fuelled frivolity, Schoolies on the Gold Coast has taken a more wholesome turn with revellers invoking responsibility over recklessness. More than 20, school leavers have descended on Surfers Paradise for the first weekend of Australia's largest Schoolies celebration. On the first night, 41 partygoers presented to the Queensland Ambulance Service's Emergency Treatment Centre at Surfers, four of whom were taken to hospital for further monitoring. Queensland Police, who in years gone by had to break up street brawls in Surfers' infamous Cavill Avenue, reported no major incidents on night one.
