Khan was born in and was a first-generation child of Pakistani Muslim immigrants. Raheel Ahmad and Khan got married in June after about five years of dating. Khan shared her experience filing for divorce through TikTok videos. One of Ahmad's relatives reported him missing to the Alpharetta Police, who then contacted the Chicago police to do a welfare check. Before she was killed, Khan was in the process of moving back to Chattanooga. Khan's funeral was on July 28, Khan's death sparked an international conversation amongst South Asian social media communities regarding gender-based domestic violence within family and culture. On October 3, , Khan's family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against her daughter's apartment building, alleging that the building allowed Ahmad into the apartment despite him being banned for being a known serious threat. Sania Khan, a Pakistani American photographer who had recently moved to Chicago, was allegedly shot and killed by her ex-husband, year-old Raheel Ahmed, who traveled from his home in Alpharetta, Georgia -- a suburb of Atlanta - to Khan's residence in Chicago, where she had recently moved, according to a police report obtained by the Chicago Sun-Times. According to her website, Khan was a professional photographer who moved to Chicago in June Ohio street where they found a woman and a man with gunshot wounds to their heads inside a residence. The woman was pronounced dead on the scene, while the man was transported to Northwestern Hospital where he was pronounced dead, and a weapon was recovered from the scene, police said. While police did not name the individuals, the Cook County Coroner's office confirmed to ABC News their identities as Sania Khan and Raheel Ahmed and said that Khan's death was ruled a homicide, while Ahmed's death was ruled a suicide. Police in Chicago arrived at Khan's condo on E. Ohio to conduct a welfare check for Ahmed at the request of police in Alpharetta. After family members of Ahmed reported him missing, police who arrived on the scene were told that he could be at Khan's residence in Chicago, a spokesperson for the Alpharetta police department told ABC News. Khan, a native of Chattanooga, Tennessee, talked about her marital struggles on TikTok, her journey to finding empowerment through divorce and starting a new life.
