This reality may take them out of the running for hikers with a wider footprint, but if you have small feet and struggle to find shoes that don't look and feel sloppy when you step, these are a great option. We found that they work best with thin running socks as opposed to light or midweight hiking socks. The OUTline falls in the middle of the pack for weight.

Considering how quickly the mudguard seemed to deteriorate on the OUTline model, I wonder whether not having it on the OUTbound will make any difference over time. But for shorter excursions or everyday exercise, it's just way too thick, making the fit far too snug on the top of the shoe along the whole length of the foot with medium or thick socks: from the top of the foot at the arch, to the ball of the foot and in the toe box.
