Redneck bush hog

So I have heard that granpa did it, and so don't see why I can't, yes use a bush hog after killing frost and get a consistent wilt and then wheel rake it all into a windrow for a sheep ration through the long dry winter with no snow cover. Perhaps it could even be redneck bush hog Thoughts on this redneck way of making hay are appreciated, redneck bush hog. But if I leave it stand I will lose all the legume leaves after frost

With it raining and high humidy most every day for the past few weeks I may need to build one of these to get the lawn mowed. Never have seen a Bush-hog with brakes beforethis must be the Deluxe model!!! Sorta think way back in my memory that I have seen a manufactured ground driven cutter maybe back in '40s or early '50s??? Kind of like the old horse drawn grond driven sickle mowers with more modern appeal. I agree might need a little more refinement. Maybe brand it " The Whopper Chopper "?

The drivers I met were small town folk, born and raised in the area of their truck's home base, had family that worked for Bush Hog too, they were connected to the equipment they hauled. If I remember right Bush Hog had two factories that equipment was shipped from, one in Salma? Alabama, and the other somewhere in Iowa. A driver from Alabama told me that the first Bush Hog was built with a differential and hood from a Ford pickup, with a chain for a blade, by "a couple good old boys" messing around the garage. There's been four bush hogs Bush Hog brand on this place over the course of mine, Dad's, and Granddad's life, and they were all made in Selma. I'm devoted to the brand, without any negative to say of other brands that may be as good or better. It's a great thing about America's legend of the 20th century that a couple of good old boys could innovate and create a product that many want to copy. Sometimes the best ideas come from those with the need at hand in front of them.

Last fall I couldn't get some hay picked up before a rain that was coming so I experimented and built a stack. As far as raking it into a windrow and leaving it, what about ground moisture and rain? Sign In Now. I don't know how much snow that you get but cows here dig through the snow quite deep to get the hay, horses got along good with the windrowed hay. I don't know about a brush hog mower But a sickle bar mower and a dump rake have fed a lot of cows even when the snow was deep.

Thoughts on this redneck way of making hay are appreciated. Does it have a 2 speed Eaton for the tough spots? Needs a antique iron seat? Saw it for sale on Facebook last week.
