Hello Smart People! I have a plain old plastic manure fork that is useless for frozen-ish poops in barn and haybale area plastic tines snap. If the manure is frozen to the ground I either kick it loose or I use a hammer to dislodge it.
I got my shipment from State Line Tack on Wednesday afternoon. UPS and FedEx are slowly figuring out how to navigate my long ass driveway and turn around. But woohoo, Tate now has a stall guard. More airflow yes please. He loves his air conditioning the stall door kept a lot of cool air out and hot air in at night! I also got my cross ties yes no more feral horses ha I just had to rig them up with baling twine due to the limitations of how damn wide my aisle is , and a new pitchfork that is perfect for my pellets, and a few other things so yay!

I want a manure fork for picking manure piles from my Coastal Bermuda pastures. If you have not seen Coastal Bermuda, it spreads by growth of stolons in a mesh along the ground. Standard manure forks, even the metal tine variety for stall use are are just too flimsy to fight the grass runners. A standard pitchfork has tines strong enough, but the tines are too far apart and the handle to head angle is just too flat. I am not sure what the weed is that make my life miserable at times, but I totally get the struggle. I have been known to use a small rake and a shovel in these situations. Rake the manure into the shovel to pick it up. I just tease the pile off the ground as best I can and am ok with some of it closest to the ground not making it out. That way not much of the tines have gotten under any runner. There are pitchforks that have many tines like a stall fork.
Do NOT strike handles on concrete floors or steel, use a wood block if you use this method. I must not be using enough water is all….

A well-designed manure fork should be lightweight, durable, and allow for easy pickup with minimal spillage. Sadly not. Most manure forks are lacking in at least one of these areas. But here are 5 of the best that tick all the right boxes. While they may differ in their construction, with some being made from polycarbonate and others steel, along with their capacity, and number of tines, rest assured that they will get the job done and withstand extensive, daily use. The Little Giant DuraPitch 2 is a favorite with people who clean several stalls every day. Firm but flexible the fork is well-designed to ensure no shavings are left behind.

Thanks to all who were so generous to reply. SO I started looking and found this! Flies have gotten insane. Work smarter not harder is my motto so am open to any suggestions on barn care! They don't make decent forks nowadays is the reason for replacing handles. Hello Smart People! It is similar to what I have described but he mentions using oil as a lubricant to make the wood slide down into the tang easier. I ran into the same problem trying to clean up a gate area that had Bermuda grass growing in and under the poop. Like Like. North Idaho Wolfman Moderator Staff member.

The Tractor Supply pellets are dusty as I knew they would be and I am not sure they are the best material for the pig who is known as Remus but it works great for Tate and his tiny little poops and his tendency to churn his stall like a Nutribullet. To get it all the way to the bottom of the tang, turn the fork with the metal tines in the air and stike a block of wood with the top of the handle. Do people at your local feed store recognize you now like they do me how embarrassing. Nov 14, 4, MidMichigan. You can get an ice chopper, which is heavier but easier to use. You scrape down sharp edges on cracks with a piece of glass to get it smooth enough to suit and wipe the handle down with linseed oil to increase the spring in the handle so it don't break but don't use too much or it will get like rubber. I like to keep the control platform clear of debris, it's all about safety. We don't have hickory out here, so I use what is available. Still picks up the poop just fine but prevents the points of the tines from getting stuck in the grass. You can chop the frozen footprints with the frozen poop. Subscribe here. Get a 3 pound hammer and drive the fork out of the broken handle. Then I simply use my plastic fork to clean it up. And it was cheap. I was giving it some more thought.
It has touched it! It has reached it!
