An unexpected turn of events throw them back to the concrete jungle of Chennai and survival becomes too tough as the girl experiences nature's dictates. What happens next is told in a unique and riveting fashion leading to a beautiful climax that will linger in your memories for long.

Peranbu transl. Compassion ; released internationally as Resurrection , is a Indian Tamil -language film written and directed by Ram and produced by P. Thenappan under Shree Rajalakshmi Films. It stars Mammootty , and Anjali. The film's score and soundtrack album is composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja , with cinematography and editing handled by Theni Eswar and Surya Pradhaman respectively. It follows the story of a confused father, who is dejected after his wife abandons him and their child, who has cerebral palsy, struggles to take care of his daughter while society constantly rejects him. Director Ram worked on the script for almost six years, and narrated to Mammooty in February , although production being further delayed, after the team decided to finalise the cast and crew. The principal photography of the film commenced in January , with filming took place on Kodaikanal and Chennai , completed within a year. The film was internationally premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam on 27 January , [2] Shanghai International Film Festival , China on 17 June , [3] the Indian Panorama category of 49th International Film Festival of India , [4] before being scheduled for a theatrical release on 1 February The film received critical acclaim with Mammootty's performance and other cast members, the direction, screenplay and narration being praised by critics. Amudhavan works in Dubai while his wife Stella lives in India with their year-old daughter Pappa who has a muscular health condition making her dependent to carry out daily functions. One day, Stella writes to Amudhavan asking him to take care of their daughter and leaves her family and runs away leading to Amu moving back home after 10 years to raise Pappa as a single father.

A few minutes into Peranbu, you realise there is much more to the story of a single father Amudhavan Mammootty , whose whole world is his daughter Paapa Sadhana. She has cerebral palsy, and is, in fact, too afraid to even let her father close. Ram, as a director, has an easy way of slipping in the details and takes you through the emotions of each character step by step. In a series of shots, he establishes the relationship between an emotional father, who still tries to understand his daughter. She is just scared. She often locks herself inside the room and is away from his sight. She throws tantrums. She freaks out, uncontrolled. Amudhavan does everything possible to make his daughter feel comfortable, but nothing really works.

I also knew Priya would not be insistent without good reason. This film depicted a condition to be pitied, rather than understood, leave alone embraced. There will not be many parents of people with disabilities who, while acknowledging the difficulties, will not also rush to tell you about some of its peculiar tiny successes and consequent joys. For one, both Mammootty and Sadhana, the girl who plays his daughter, a teenager with cerebral palsy, have put in astonishing performances. For me, however, what most captivated was the portrayal of a parent who is suddenly left to care for a special needs child; one of the most subtle performances I have seen Mammootty deliver. Watching that play in London nearly reduced me to a sobbing wreck but it was only much later that I realised it was the father I wanted to weep for and not the son. Mark Haddon is not himself a special needs parent but he has taught children with autism and hence his insight. While I would have wished for a bit more levity, a bit more laughter yes, believe it or not, there is plenty of comedy in the lives of people with special needs , this film did at least reveal some flashes of happiness.
