The price is higher than it once was, but, thanks to the simplification of the process for running Windows on ARM, Parallels Desktop is the best option for Mac users who need to run Windows software on their Mac. For many Mac users, running Windows applications is a necessity. Or perhaps you want to play Windows games on your Mac. But times have changed and Apple has now transitioned from Intel to its own M-series chips and left Boot Camp in the past as it is not an option for M-series Macs. There is an ARM version of Windows, but getting hold of that can be a challenge.

Fortunately, Parallels Desktop 18 makes running the latest version of Microsoft's OS easier than ever. Parallels Desktop 18 lets you create virtual machines that run on top of macOS so you can run operating systems like Windows as if they were native applications. This software cannot be used to create x86 or Intel-based virtual machines at all when used on an Apple Silicon Mac and you wouldn't want to, considering how poor performance would be. Apple Silicon ditches the bit x86 architecture that Windows has traditionally used, so running Microsoft's operating system on your Mac using Parallels Desktop 18 uses the experimental Windows on ARM release. Fortunately, this version of Windows has come a long way since it first appeared in the days of Windows Because of the inherent differences in the way different processor architectures work, Windows must use an emulation later to enable compatibility on ARM. Windows 10 on ARM had support for bit applications written for x86, and now Windows 11 on ARM adds support for modern bit applications. Theoretically, most software that runs on the standard "retail" version of Windows should also run on the ARM version. This means that running Windows on an Apple Silicon processor is viable from both a performance and compatibility standpoint. You can also use Parallels Desktop to run other ARM-based operating systems on your Mac in just the same manner, opening up the world of Linux virtualization too. Parallels Desktop 18 handles the setup process quickly and easily, getting you up and running in record time. The self-contained installer downloads everything you need and walks you through the various macOS permissions you'll need to enable to get the most out of the software. How long the process takes largely depends on how fast your internet speed is. As soon as Parallels Desktop finishes installing, you're invited to download and set up Windows right away.
Im having the same problem with M1 and Parallels, the Trigger Wizard takes really long to load. How long the process takes largely depends on how fast parallels performance internet speed is.
I've been using SL at work for a while, and have decided to go solo and download it on my home computer. I have an M1 MacBook so have downloaded it to my virtual machine parallels. It seems to run well on first glance but I am noticing that the trigger wizard is very slow to open and use, as well as other bits and bobs. Does anyone know of any reasons for this or fixes I can try as I'm afraid it will slow my workflow down and make the experience of using SL not very enjoyable. I love my Mac and it is lighting quick with native apps on Mac OS.

Luckily there are other options for those wanting to run Windows and other guest operating systems on a Mac and one of the best is Parallels Desktop. Thanks to a regular cycle of annual updates — that generally coincide with updates to macOS itself — Parallels Desktop has ruled the roost in the Mac virtualization market in recent years. Parallels Desktop is virtualisation software that allows you to create a virtual machine — or VM — that runs Windows, and other operating systems, on your Mac as though they were another Mac app.

Parallels, the company best known for its virtualization software that lets you run Windows and Linux directly on your Mac, has had a busy year. In addition to building a version of Parallels that can run on Chrome OS for the first time, the company also had to figure out how to quickly make its software work with the new, ARM-based M1 Macs that arrived last fall. Now, Parallels Desktop 17 is being released with improved performance on M1 Macs, as well as full support for the upcoming macOS Monterey and Windows 11 operating systems.

And it does not make -any- noise. I'm sorry to hear you're running into issues using Storyline on a Mac M1 using Parallels and Windows Version 18 made it easy to install the ARM version of Windows My favourite game anticheat protection detects parallels as virtual machine and wont let me play…i heard several other games have it too. The whole point of such a software is to be fast, and I don't understand why Parallels is so slow. Couple of further thoughts: - the windows app is not x86 but x64, so anyway at least it s 64 bits. This is handy since Windows still receives the lion's share of games, and many older games that have Mac versions no longer work for one reason or another. Download a version of Linux, set up a virtual machine, install the OS, and test it out. For a small, slide project no video or excessive amount of content , publishing takes foreeeevverrr! So sorry to hear you are experiencing these issues as well with Storyline while using Parallels and Windows I did raise a case as suggested by Maria and have had a reply which I'll leave here; "I understand that you're having issues with Storyline running slow on Windows 11 ARM edition via Parallels on your Macbook Pro with M1 chip. This sidebar will go away, and you'll see fewer ads.
Parallels is also the only solution officially authorized by Microsoft to run Windows 11 on a Mac. You can even copy and paste files and documents between macOS and Windows as if they were one operating system.
BTW, you can search that site for "Fortnite", and it says the same thing - can't play due to anti-cheat software. I've only tried Fortnite on Parallels and ran into an anti-cheat block. It's easy to forget you have Windows running at all. And I never experienced any GPU throttling due to high temperature in the past 18 months. There is an ARM version of Windows, but getting hold of that can be a challenge.
