The different dinosaurs and critters in Paleo Pines come in a variety of color schemes. The rarity and expression of these color schemes varies based on species, with the notable exception of the Albino and Melanistic colorations being available on all species exclusively at the Ultra Rare level. Certain dinosaurs in the game come with pre-determined and unique colour schemes that can not be obtained by the player. As none of these dinosaurs except Lucky currently register in the journal, there are no official names for any of these character-unique colour schemes. In order to keep the list accessible for easy searching, the table lists only generic colours. While many shades and tints of colour tones can be referred to by more specific names, the distinction between them can vary between regions, organizations, and individuals.

To prevent conusion, the table should only use the most basic colour wheel - Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, and Purple - and adds Brown, Cream, Teal, and Pink as additional distinct categories. For the sake of clarity, Brown is any desaturated and dark warm tone; Cream is any off-white tone; Pink includes hot pinks, magenta, and pale red tones; and Teal is to distinguish tones which are neither fully blue nor fully green. Any more specification of colour nuances should be contained to the page dedicated to the schemes. While not an official designation, for the the colour schemes can be broadly categorized into three groups based on the relationship of colours they bring to any given pattern - monotone , duotone , and special schemes.
