This is one of the most frequent OBD2 trouble codes. Read the full article below to know what it means, how to fix it, and what other codes may show related to it. OBD-II diagnostic trouble code P indicates a fault with the post catalytic converter fuel trim system being too rich in bank 1 This code trigger when the downstream bank 1 oxygen sensors register a rich condition. In modern vehicles, there is one O2 sensor mounted upstream of the exhaust system and another one mounted downstream, these are referred to as sensor one and sensor two. The powertrain control module PCM utilizes the second oxygen sensor to measure the un-combusted hydrocarbon molecules in the exhaust stream after it has passed the catalytic converter. If the engine is in perfect running condition, the catalytic converter should burn off any excess hydrocarbon molecules and the fuel trim should be within range. Oxygen sensors aid in this cycle by keeping the powertrain control module PCM updated on oxygen levels in the exhaust stream. This permits the PCM to adjust the air to fuel ratio whenever necessary. If the fuel trim is too rich, and the deviation from desired values exceeds a specified upper limit for a period of time set by the manufacturer, the PCM will set the code P

Trying to catch up with this thread. I tried some graphing in Excel but it wasn't as helpful as I thought. I opened the air filter box and put the propane in the intake - no change. That'll give you basically O. According to Paul's Engine Performance Diagnostics manual, A forced open loop condition will occur when an O2 sensor will not respond to the computer's command. BoostedSpd6 said:. Help us help you. The freeze frame showed the P tripped the CEL and it occurred while driving around rpm and mph I cleared it once it freeze frame showed P while driving both times. At that point decided to replace the post cat sensor as well as the car has k on it. Would you mind grabbing another capture with Forscan? It has k miles on it - bought from neighbor who was original owner and had maintained. It was installed back in November and I haven't had a problem until Monday. Got it out. I need to get that resolved but overall am really pleased on the outcome of the new sensors.
You are mistaken. I can defend the position. Write to me in PM.
