P0730 honda crv 1999
Thread Tools. Hi all, desperately seeking help. My crv wouldnt shift past second gear. It would shift fine until I drove it a few miles then it wouldnt go into gear at all unless I cut car off and back on.
No matter what I shifted it in it was still in neutral. After turning it off and back on I could drive a few tenths of a mile before it shifted itself back into neutral. I changed out a near dead battery and drove it 35 miles before it did it again. I thought I fixed it. What next? Do you. Hi Marty Kunard, Here are the diagnostic procedures.

However, I noticed that the transmission was getting a little funny. Maybe some mild jerking when taking off in 1st gear. Then it got worse and wouldn't shift past 2nd gear, at which point it popped a CEL. I made it a few more miles where when stopped at a light the car wouldn't move. Pressing the gas made the engine rev freely but the car didn't move.

A trouble code P Shift Control System Fault lets you know that the transmission is not shifting between gears usually 1st-2nd, 2nd-3rd, or 2nd-4th gears or is stuck in 1st or 4th gear. Unfortunately, this trouble code does not indicate exactly where the problem lies or what component is the one that has failed. In 8 of 10 cases, a trouble code P is caused by an internal mechanical problem in the transmission causing it to slip or not go into a higher gear.
