I did find this manga entertaining, as well as the dark mood reflected upon the dialogue and art, however the impact didn't hit me as hard as most people because to me, this story is simply a reflection of "society" and we're all equal in terms of misfortune. This coming-of-age story is different from anything that I've ever read. They also slightly suffer from the Tarantino effect where you hear the writer in them more than the character to the point of intrusion. Type: Manga. A bitter, irrational, depressed main character, punpun, has a bad home-life in his childhood. He has many regrets and things he wishes he could do differently if given the chance. Alcoholics, violent maniacs, horny sluts, smug loners, idiots, nutcases. This manga highlights the effects of childhood trauma, the individuality and uniqueness of each and every individual, self alienation, growing up, and so much more. Although while the things punpun experienced can be generally associated to a lot of peoples lives I felt as if it was me in that story and the author did a good job on that part. It focuses first on being relatable, which then makes a powerful connection with the reader. The amount of depth this manga has to offer will be remembered for a long time.

Overall, my initial feelings towards this manga was the same I felt by the end. Having gone too far into the psychological issues and the writing of the characters and plot, I must now stick to the aesthetic part of the manga. And then we begin to see that sometimes life can be a lot more cruel than we thought. Life has no meaning, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't live it. In the end it will be your interpretation of all this that really determines your enjoyment of this manga. Punpun has multiple digressions of this nature that pad out that pad sad bad nad cad dad chad jihad out what would otherwise be a straightforward narrative. These characters, free of any conventional traits or personalities, are driven to fully develop throughout the run of the series into some of the most refined, human characters I have ever seen.
