The group was blamed for the suicide of a year-old who was allegedly smoking marijuana and playing Russian roulette while listening. Of course this kind of controversy usually benefits the artist in question — see 2 Live Crew, N. Esham might sell well in Detroit, but would he move enough units in their stores outside Michigan to make it worth the picket signs and boycotting threats? The typical Insane Clown Posse album features far more macabre and purposefully shocking lyrics, specifically crafted to titillate their listeners and rile up the critics who decry their vulgarity thus ensuring their continued popularity. The irony there is that Esham gained a new and possibly larger following when he eventually signed to Psychopathic Records, giving him a better chance at distribution in major record stores than he ever had before. It would hardly be the only example though as Mr. I keep looking for what made this album so ban worthy to so many people all those decades ago and I keep failing to find anything out of the ordinary for a rap group from the era.

In , they released the mixtape "The Vatican". Currently original members Esham and Mastamind are recording a reunion album according to Mastamind's official Facebook account. Esham met Mastamind as a student at Osborne High School, who gave him a three-song demo tape of his music, leading the two to form the group with Esham's longtime friend, T-N-T, deciding on the name Natas, an acronym for "Nation Ahead of Time and Space", and because it was "Satan" spelled backwards. Following the release of this album, Esham, Natas and Reel Life Productions were the subject of much controversy when a year-old fan killed himself while smoking cannabis and playing Russian roulette while listening to Life After Death. Previously recorded material was released in and on N of tha World and The Vatican. In it was announced on Mastamind's official Facebook account that a new Natas album has been planned and after the release of his next album "The Ultimate Price" they will begin recording the album with an expected release date. On December 8, once again via his official Facebook account, Mastamind announced that recording of the new Natas album was completed and was in the mixing stages. With the death of T-N-T, Natas broke up. Esham has said in his interview with Faygoluvers, for his 16th album Scribble, "There won't be another Natas album". Natas refers to its performance style as "acid rap", comparing the lyrics to hallucinations induced by LSD.

Along with group leader Esham's numerous '90s solo albums, Natas' work during this same decade trailblazed a path through uncharted territory, defining a dark style of hardcore rap characterized by decadent motifs and heavy metal-like aggression. Taking considerable influence from Niggaz4life-era NWA, the Detroit, MI, trio consisting of Esham, Mastamind, and TNT came hard on their debut album, Life After Death, to the point where their anger-exuding music alienated all but a small cult audience fascinated with their anarchic disposition and their self-termed style of "acid rap. To further the impact of these lyrics, Esham self-produced the album, laying down gritty beats and making effective use of rock samples to give the album a harsher tone. Successive albums found the trio improving their rapping and their production, as they slowly matured, moving progressively away from mere exploitation.
