Other fragments have been found in a bykilometre The meteorite was first described in by Professor A. Studies have shown it to be the oldest discovered meteorite impacting the Earth during the Quaternary Period, about one million years ago. It is quite clearly part of the iron core or mantle of a planetoid, which shattered into many pieces upon its fall on our planet. It was unearthed from a glacial moraine in the northern tundra. It has a strongly weathered surface covered with cemented faceted pebbles.

A gorgeous ring carved from a Muonionalusta meteorite with rhodium plating. Meteorites are rocks that fall to the earth's surface from space. Often originating from asteroid and comet fragments that travel through space till crossing our planetary path, as the effects of gravity pull the meteoroid enough to fall through the planet's atmosphere. Meteors, also known as shooting stars, are the streaks of light created by the gasses held within meteoroids burning in the Earth's atmosphere. Some of the fastest meteors travel at speeds of 44 miles 70km per second. These amazing space rocks are then considered meteorites when they crash to earth as the final bang! Metaphysically meteorites connect us to the flow of the universe, connecting to other dimensions, and communicating with others.

When the outer diameter looked good I used the same cutting tool to put a little taper on the outside edges of the ring. This made it easy to mount the meteorite into the chuck jaws of my lathe and get busy making that hole. As you move the ring the pattern seems to change in different lights and however differently you turn it, you'll see a different etching. I didn't want to use any glue to bond the pieces together so I needed to machine the hole in the meteorite precisely so both pieces would fit together good and tight. After 20 minutes in the pickle the ring was free of any excess soldering flux and oxidisation. Once again my ring stretcher became useful as I used it to press fit both pieces and then the stretcher to expand the silver from the inside so it was a super tight fit to the meteorite. To make the join as seamless as possible I ran a jewellers saw down the seam and did a bit of filing so that both of the edges connected up nicely. After a hard days work it was time to take some snazzy pictures with my DSLR and finally wear my shooting star ring! The ring was then cleaned with soapy water and thrown into an ultrasonic cleaner to remove any contaminants. I personally wanted a deep etch and was stoked to see those patterns revealed! After cutting my metal I filed down the edge I had just sawn so it was nice and smooth and then I got the ring ready for soldering. Before doing any shaping a used a number 2 file to clean up a little of the excess solder over the seam of the ring. To get both edges of the sheet to meet I roughly formed the silver into a U shape by bending it around a mandrel and then used a combination of hammering and a half round nose pliers to make a D shape.
