It makes the mice track better than straight on the desk but also the keyboards a tiny bit quieter.

This is an experiment that will take as much as a year or so. I eliminated wear on the feet by using a Teflon tape similar to actual mouse tape, only thicker and wider, over the feet and replace the tape every few weeks as needed.
