After months of waiting for an official reveal, Mortal Kombat 1 has finally been announced in all of its timeline-resetting glory. Based on Mortal Kombat 1 's announcement trailer, the game seems to be bringing back a good portion of its iconic original roster. But while Mortal Kombat 1 seems to be going back to its roots with this semi-reboot, it's still likely to bring over some elements of the past few entries, potentially putting it in the same unlikely boat as Fortnite. Fortnite is currently relying on crossovers more than ever before. The very first Fortnite crossover was with Avengers: Infinity War back in , and that opened the floodgates for just about every other pop-culture franchise to come to the game. These collaborations have only become more prevalent as the years have gone on, and now more so than ever, it seems as though Fortnite might be leaning on its pop-culture crossovers a little too much. In the last year, Fortnite has not only brought a slew of new crossover cosmetics to the game, but has hosted a handful of fully-fledged limited-time events, bringing in new questlines, new Battle Passes, and new items and weapons.

A Ready Player One battle royale game was announced earlier this week.
