During the season, future superstar Connor McDavid , who was drafted in June , stated that Bozak was his most comparable player due to the centre's good skating and "pass first" mentality. Bozak had spent much of his NHL career playing on a line with Kessel, and many fans and media outlets predicted that Bozak's offensive production would decline significantly in his absence, with some even saying Bozak's point totals would resemble bottom line players Bozak had spent most of his career on Toronto's top line.

When the St. Louis Blues acquired Tyler Bozak , many fans did not know what to think. They knew he was a decent enough player, but they likely did not know what kind of person they were getting. However, it was hard not to fall for the guy almost immediately. He had this Cheshire cat grin on his face when he was immediately interviewed on NHL Network, almost like he knew that he was coming to a place that was going to be special. Then came the play.
