The owners of Modern Bread and Bagel — a popular gluten-free destination with locations on the Upper West Side, Chelsea and Los Angeles — have leased a space at Third Avenue, between 80th and 81st streets. The kosher and gluten-free bakery has made a big splash since opening its original location on the Upper West Side in ; offering bagels, cakes , pastries and more. However, per a phone call with the owners, the exact concept for this space has yet to be announced. The 1, square foot Third Avenue space was formerly home to Casa Pizza. The space at 3rd Avenue is a straight shot from the Metropolitan Museum of Art and is sandwiched between iconic New York bakeries Breads and Levain, so a nearby gluten-free, kosher option may be a perfect fit. The owners indicated it may be a while before this new space opens , but their other locations do ship nationwide. So, if you want your gluten-free fix today, you can always visit their other locations and concepts, or try out one of their recipes at home!

I could literally cry. The whole place is gluten free and so so so good. I had a delicious everything bagel and potato latkes!! Soooo worth the trip! Had the most delicious bagels. It was so nice to go somewhere and be told everything is gluten free. Amazing experience!! Everything we had was delicious! Sugarfish, the big show, chocolate, cupcake, and pumpkin bread. We are from out of state, but I would get this shipped home! The staff was so friendly and happy to tell me about the offerings. This is one of my favorite places in the world. House smoked salmon as well as a variety of unique cream cheeses and dips complement our kettle boiled Ancient Grain Bagels. Our all-day menu features creative brunch items including BYO and chef curated fresh bagel sandwiches, a variety of avocado toasts, breakfast grilled cheese, craft salads and hearty bowls. We do as much as we can in house, squeezing our own juice, blending our own teas and baking all bakery items on site daily. Our baristas craft a variety of tea lattes and espresso drinks with coffee from Australian style Grumpy Roasters in Brooklyn. Orly was driven to develop a gluten free baking product that didn't compromise on taste because of her food-centric husband living with celiac disease. The initial motivation was hoping to learn some of the classics so she could re-create them for her husband But it was there she discovered her passion for baking, and Orly went on to receive her formal patisserie training from the Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Arts Institute in Sydney, Australia. After several years of research, Orly was able to decipher how to create delicious tasting baked goods, breads, and pastries using ancient grains, rather than traditional flour.
