Like airliners.

It is really hard to add to all the usual stuff I have said over the past year about this aircraft. I have always found it interesting that when one manufacturer brings out a kit that modelers have wanted for many years, all of a sudden we are 'inundated' by other kits of the same thing. One has to wonder what the marketing guys used for a barometer to see what we modelers would buy. Now as nice as all of these kits are, I can't see most of us building more than one of each. There is no difference at all in the parts of this kit and the previously issued KCG kit.

I only took one photo of the finished model for some reason, but I've added a couple of extra shots I took before I realised that I'd forgotten to paint the nose cone! Being a predominantly white aircraft, the blue background probably suits it better anyway. It's just a shame I was too lazy to take more photos once the nose cone was done! Decals are a combination of Hawkeye Models Australia livery , Authentic Airliners Decals windows , and kit decals wing panels and walkway lines. The worst aspect of this kit, far and away, are the propellers. They're just misshapen lumps, and the prop blades break off just by thinking about them. Looks good Kev. Seeing this, I could get tempted again, if I could find one? Did you have to do much remedial work, other than the self destructing props? You've achieved a great looking result with this. Thanks for the kind words, Steve. I really didn't do any fixes on this model, but the following photos show a bit of the construction work, including how crude the fit is in places.

Posted February 11, As nice as the Minicraft effort is, the minicraft 1/144 is not really that highly detailed and suffers from toy-like wheels that have no detail in them at all and are too skinny. The is pretty close to twice as long as the Electra, minicraft 1/144, and would be about the same in wingspan too, I reckon.

This is a very simple kit, and I've already done quite a bit of assembly work. Here's the fuselage, with the insides painted black, the nose wheel bay fitted, and nose weights fixed in place with Blu-Tack:. That's a total of 6 kit parts! And for those of you wondering why I bother painting the interior of the fuselage in black, notice the difference in colour between the fuselage and the wings. The plastic is translucent enough that you can see a hint of the internal black colour on the outside. The point of doing it, though, is to lessen the number of coats of paint you have to use on the outside to eliminate any translucency effects. I like it Kev.

Fortunately they stand proud of the tire, and could just be sanded off. They also didn't fit well. If you look carefully at the finished photos, you can see that the blades aren't all completely perpendicular to the ground. The th Bomb Wing, which had been in action from Guam since June of , specialized in oil refineries, and if successful, this would destroy the last of the 9 refineries. One thing that I like about this kit is that there are no cabin windows. I then tried to fit the tailplanes into their slots. Beautiful model of a very handsome aeroplane. These do not fit at all well and so I had to use judicious amounts of glue to get them in place in each fuselage half. There were a few on the other wing as well, but not that bad. This way, I had somewhere to hold the kit while painting! This Scalemaster sheet has been sitting in a box for about 15 years.

The doors are supposed to attach via a C shaped attachment. Go to topic listing. After making sure that the weight I put in was enough, the transparency was glued in place. This is basically a flap piece that prevents you from looking into the canopy and seeing through the nose gear well. On the sheet below, it is the area circled in red. While that was drying, the engines were painted flat black. They are a nice, snug press fit. This airliner, and i think the Boeing Stratocruiser were the first airliner releases to come from Minicraft. So the "last mission" did contribute to the end of the war, even if the refinery target was not strategically necessary. While I'm sure that was just so that they could do a KC with the same fuselage, it makes it much easier. Already have an account? Sign in here. After cutting them out of as much of the carrier as possible, they went down just great. I have always found it interesting that when one manufacturer brings out a kit that modelers have wanted for many years, all of a sudden we are 'inundated' by other kits of the same thing. The nacelles are not that great a fit and the ones that house the landing gear are totally devoid of any detail or even enclosed wells.
