Your board members are active members of the community. They work hard to take in member inputs and steer the co-op towards a better future. You should feel free to get in touch to share your views. This system of governing is called Policy Governance. In effect, it is a system whereby the Board creates policies that allow the General Manager and Staff the greatest possible operational freedom while still guiding the fundamental direction of the Co-op. The General Manager is directly accountable to the Board for all of these policies, which are monitored year round according to a schedule. Policy Governance gives boards the capacity and role clarity to truly be trustees for the member-owners.
