Megatron is the primary antagonist of Transformers Prime , as well as one of the main characters in War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron. He was the leader of all the Decepticons during the Great War on Cybertron. During the Golden Age on Cybertron, Megatron was originally a mining bot designated D before naming himself Megatronus, after the Prime of the same name. Megatronus was a gladiator in the pits of Kaon , who grew ambitious and saw corruption within the caste system and sought to put an end to it, with his own rule. Megatron began talking with his old friend, Orion Pax , who saw him as a mentor.

When Megatron grew corrupted by his power, Orion would utilize his teachings against him as Optimus Prime. In most incarnations, Megatron would eventually meet his demise at Optimus' hands, only to later be resurrected as Galvatron. Megatron has become one of the franchise's most iconic characters and a widely recognized villain in popular culture. His alternate mode and characterization have been far less consistent than Optimus Prime, though his most iconic forms are still inspired by the original take on the character. This makes him arguably less defined than some might expect for the main Decepticon, but this hasn't stopped Megatron from crushing countless Autobots with his bare hands. Megatron and Starscream soon arrive in Egypt , and he commands his Decepticons including several Constructicons and Starscream to prevent Sam from getting the Matrix of Leadership to Optimus and retrieve it for the Fallen's machine.
