While she has spent more time away from Attilan than other medusa marvel of the Inhuman Royal Family, Medusa has proven time and again to be steadfastly loyal to her husband Black Bolt, and even more so to her subjects. With super-strong prehensile tresses under her psychokinetic control, medusa marvel, Medusa is well-equipped as a protector to her people.

Medusalith Amaquelin was born to Quelin and Ambur , who were both members of the Inhumans. Quelin was the brother of Rynda , the wife of King Agon. Because of that family connection, Medusalith was considered a member of Attilan's Royal Family. Her parents had elected to expose her to the Terrigen Mists when she was young, which gave her a long, thick head of red hair which she could use like an appurtenance. She became widely known by her shortened name "Medusa," after the woman in Greek mythology who had actual snakes for hair. Though she was the first Inhuman character to ever appear in comics, she made her debut as the sole female member of the Frightful Four , a team of supervillains that opposed the heroic Fantastic Four. She was given the unique power of prehensile hair and believed herself to be the most powerful member of the Frightful Four.

There she met and formed a close relationship with Louise Fisher , who helped Medusa reunite with her family. Upon returning to Attilan , they tried to prevent Maximus from destroying the city, but being unsuccessful, Medusa and Black Bolt led the Inhumans to a settlement on Earth that became their new home. Medusa and Crystal run from Agon and Rynda. Her parents believed in tearing down the caste system and overthrowing the Inhuman Royal Family that had ruled Attilan for centuries. However, the rebellion failed and Medusa's parents were then executed by the king and queen at the time. Medusa and her sister were spared from the fate of their parents. Medusa, like most Inhumans , went through Terrigenesis.

Her name and aspects of the character are derived from Greek mythology , as her hair has prehensile attributes like that of the mythological Medusa 's hair. The character has psychokinetic control over her hair, a power she obtained through Terrigenesis. With this power, she can extend her hair to double its normal length, using it to pick locks, lift objects, and contain objects and people. She appears in Fantastic Four 38, and in various subplot glimpses from The Inhumans also appear in Fantastic Four 82—83, with Medusa. The Inhumans are granted their first new adventure in Fantastic Four Annual 5, and a solo series in the split-book Amazing Adventures The first four installments are written and drawn by Jack Kirby.

Medusa is best known for her long, thick head of red hair, which she can psychokinetically wield like countless extra appendages. Medusa was the first of two children born to Inhuman nutritionists Quelin and Ambur. Medusa is considered a member of Attilan's Royal Family. Medusa's parents elected to expose her to the mutagenic Terrigen Mist when she was an infant; the process endowed her with hair she could animate like added appendages. While still an adolescent, she began to make frequent visits to the isolation cell of her second cousin, Black Bolt, and learned to communicate with him in a special sign language.

The Red Skull, before his murder at the hands of Magneto that transformed him into the Red Onslaught, had transformed the ruins of the former mutant kingdom of Genosha into "Re-education Camps" for "genetic filth". As the solitary leader of the Inhumans, Medusa begins rebuilding the fallen Attilan afloat in the Hudson River, just off Manhattan, and dubs it New Attilan. Medusa finds herself no longer able to interpret her husband's wishes as she used to. She was told by Karnak about which spots to hit on an energy-based creature, but she and Karnak were easily knocked out. Season 5. In her growing confusion with her husband's actions, Medusa finds herself drawn to Maximus against her will and would visit him often in his prison cell. When his machine didn't work, Medusa realized that the Inhumans and humans were all the same and it angered Maximus. Her scalp, skull, and neck do not support the weight of an object that she lifts: it is held aloft by the psionic force coursing through the hair. The Avengers began to prepare themselves for war with the X-Men. She then told Black Bolt that she wanted to attempt to negotiate one last time with Maximus, explaining that she had kept a Terrigen Crystal and wanted to offer it to Maximus in exchange for him stepping down from the throne. Black Bolt makes an appearance at this point and the two are shown to make love as Medusa contemplates her longing to hear a moan, whisper, or laugh from him.
