Max Laughton is a Journalism graduate from Monash University, currently working as a digital content producer for Fox Footy. He sat down with us to talk about working in new media, the realities of the current Journalism climate and dealing with Facebook criticism. Well, in my last year at uni I did an internship at Fox Footy for 2 weeks. I really only got the internship because my dad had a contact, but once I was there I agreed to do pretty much anything that was asked of me and always offered to do more. At the end they hired me for an entry level role on the TV production side, which was really great because it made me realise I was there because of my skills, and not because of my connections. After 2 years of hard work and persistently reminding them that I was available for any opportunities I got a full time job doing what I do now. Pretty much all of your work is posted online, particularly through Facebook and twitter.

A stack of Fox Footy experts looked into their respective AFL crystal balls and predicted the premier, runner-up and Gary Ayres Medallist for the finals series. They were also asked to predict if any of the top-four teams would be eliminated in straight-sets. Three tipsters — including Lions great Jonathan Brown — predicted Brisbane to win it from second, but another 12 said the Lions would make the Grand Final then lose the match. Six pundits tipped Melbourne to claim the premiership cup — despite finishing fourth on the ladder at the end of the home and away season. Former Carlton star Eddie Betts predicted his side to win the flag from fifth and defeat Collingwood in the Grand Final to do it. And only Geelong in the Covid year of has made a Grand Final after finishing fourth. The team that has finished third on the ladder has made the Grand Final in six of the past seven years. AFLW star and Fox Footy commentator Chloe Molloy — who so happens to be donning a red and white jumper this season — boldly predicted Sydney to win the flag from eighth. Will any of the top-four teams be knocked out in straight-sets, and if so, who?
