He was appointed to be, in the fullness of time, the first of all Kings: Lord of the realm of Arda and ruler of all that dwell therein. In Arda his delight is in the winds and the clouds, and in all the regions of the air, from the heights to the depths, from the utmost borders of the Veil of Arda to the breezes that blow in the grass. All swift birds, strong of wing, he loves, and they come and go at his bidding. Ruiling their counsels and confirming their deeds. And his far gaze over the world. Of his compassion and wisdom however, he does not understand evil to it's fullest, which caused him to be misled into trickery by unchaining his brother Melkor from Mandos, which brought about the wars of Men and Elves against Morgoth. The winds and airs were his servants. Only if Varda sits beside him on her Throne, he sees further than all other eyes, through mist, and through darkness, through clouds and over the leagues of the sea. Afterwards, the Valar under Varda made an abode on Middle-earth in the Isle of Almaren and constructed the two Lamps of the Valar to provide light to the world. But Melkor destroyed the lamps, and the Valar retreated to the continent of Aman, which they heavily fortified. Eventually, the Elves awoke in Middle-earth, and Varda at last went with the other Valar to subdue Melkor. They succeeded, and Melkor was imprisoned in the Halls of Mandos. Varda extended an invitation to the Elves to journey to Aman and live there amongst the Valar. For the three Ages of Melkor's imprisonment, the Valar and the Elves lived in peace and happiness. But eventually Melkor was allowed to plead for pardon before Varda again. Varda allowed him to release Melkor from Mandos, whereupon Melkor began plotting the downfall of the Elves and the ruin of Aman's bliss.
